Beyond the Fringe

I finally got round to making a hairdresser's appointment, my grey roots have been driving me crazy, and I felt like a change.

Who's that girl?

Why that would be me, with my new hair do!

Looking pretty smug!

What do you think?

Looking back at old photos, I think it's about 3 years since I last had a fringe.

I am past the stage of fretting about hair cuts or colours, thank goodness. It's only hair! Though I do remember weeping over my first ever perm (disastrous) and when a hairdresser cut all my layers back in after I had spent ages growing them out. He spent more time looking at himself in the mirror than at me. Why was I so unassertive back then?

Going to get my hair cut is a very pleasant experience these days.

And I had the go-ahead from fellow Fringe Dweller of Note, darling Sarah, so that was all the encouragement I needed.

My lovely hairdresser Kirsty is just back from maternity leave, so we talked births and babies and broken nights and being besotted.

And hair, of course, you have to talk about hair.

1970s Tricoville dress (last seen here) - gift from fabulous festival floozy Vix
Cardigan and bangles - charity shopped
Belt and Fly sandals - retail (sale)
Necklace - my mum's
Sunglasses - vintage shop
Shiny new haircut - Kirsty at Creator

I used to work with someone who reckoned a change of hair style indicated a change in life. If a colleague turned up to work sporting a new do, he's nod sagely and whisper "Bet she's got a new fella."

No new fellas in my life, but I do feel the need for some change. Nothing major, but I know I am in a rut. It's comfortable but I feel lazy.

Maybe it's time to shake it up a little.

You have a great hair dresser! The colour is fantastic, and it's cut so it looks incredibly thick and healthy! It frames your face so well, so I'd say the fringe is a huge success!

My hair is so sparse and so extremely fine, like baby hair, and with the curls, an enormous challenge to most hair dressers. Countless are the number of times I've come home crying, with another disastrous hair cut. I'm just so thankful for having found my current hair dresser, last summer - it makes a very big difference. It's like looking 10 years older/younger, or looking like I have a hair disease! It can go so wrong with my hair that I can't say: It's only hair (it also grows very slowly). I have had too many: Not again!

Your dress is fabulous! With the cardigan, the new hair colour really stands out. I do like the sandals too - and of course all your lovely jewellery!

Love your hair - all shiny and new.
I went to my hairdresser for a fringe trim yesterday. I was trying to grow it out but hate my bald forehead when I put it up.
Lovig the purple hues in your dress.

FANTASTIC new hair do! This is superb. I love you with fringes too. I'm glad you're shaking it up because while I love the style, I also love the attitude that goes with it. We're transforming! Also, that dress fits you like a dream and the red shoes are the absolute perfect smack - your photos are stunning!

Curtise, you always have good hair. I LOVE the new haircut and the gorgeous, deep, warm colour. I have messy hair, so I can not achieve that look, and instead have to usually go with some wild and unkempt trickery.

Loooooove it! It soooo suits you. You look even more gorgeous than ever. Seriously. Love the dress too.

The fringe suits you brilliantly. Good choice! And yes, it's only hair!

I love the wavy purple dress. It's a summery style in autumn like colours so it will be a good transition piece.

I love it! Really suits you, more than I would have imagined.
Reminds me of Anna Wintour's cut, which is perfectly styled. You look younger, and it frames your face beautifully. A success. Can't wait to see it for real!

Lovely how your haircut frames your face, you have gorgeous thick hair! I adore how in the first photo, your rings echo your bracelets and I am intrigued by those bracelet-Buddhas.

Cardigan and sandals are perfect colours with that amazing dress too - altogether fresh!

Curtise, what a super flattering cut! You make me want bangs again but I have too many cowlicks to wear them well. I did color my hair a more intense red a few hours ago. We must be on the same wavelength.

That dress is amazing. You really have an eye for the most beautiful prints.

From another fringe lover let me just say I love it, you look fabolous. I think fringes take years off. I too, love getting my hair one and have long had the " it's only hair" mantra if something doesn't work out. It's good though because my friend is my hairdresser, we get together for play dates with the kids and she'll do my hair.

You're rocking your frock but I'm sure you knew that already.

That brought back memories! I used to work with a lady who never wore anything but Tricoville dresses! Your hair looks fab darling - I was keeping an eye out in case I saw you at the Botanical Gardens. xxxx

The fringe looks fab! You really suit it. I dread having my haircut as it's never quite the way I want it. Oh well, like you say it is only hair! x

Love the new cut and colour Curtise, both suit you really well. My hair's always just sort of there, with no particular style to it, but these pics make me want to sort myself out a bit. xx

Curtise! You look fantastic in bangs, or fringe as you call them. Really, really, really you do!
Now this is tempting me because I'll be making an appt next week. My grey is 2 inches of grow out right now and I feel like a dumpy hag. ;(

Thanks for swinging by my art blog. I was styling Amy for the photos and kept rubbing her breasts! They're so foreign to me. haha! And she allows me to do that once in a while...just a little bit. ;)

I like the fringe and how shiny it looks. My first thought was that it softens your face. My second thought was that this looks a bit like Anna Wintour, with a smile!

You're looking very sultry with fringe. The hairstyle goes well with the hot colors and feminine rocker chick vibe of the dress. Gorgeous as always!

What a fringetastic haircut Curtise, it really suits your face and your hair is so lovely and thick to boot. I'm a fringe lover myself having had one all of my life (not stuck in a rut then?) and nowadays I find it invaluable for hiding those pesky frown lines and wrinkles. The only drawback is it may need trimming before the rest of your barnet but I just hack at mine with my dressmaking scissors much to my hairdresser's amusement. Love the frock btw.

Your fringe looks fabulous. Realising 'it's only hair' is very liberating. I love your dress. The print is great.

Looks good, you can never go wrong with a bob! That is why I am growing mine back. I like the hair colour too!

I had a good experience with a hairdresser this weekend, incidentally. I walked past this salon in Brighton offering dry cuts for a mere £9 and I thought, well, for this price no point in being stingy. I walked in, I drew on a piece of paper what I wanted and was very happy with the result and only paid £14 (I had my hair washed in the end). I normally do my own hair but need professional intervention every so often, however I really don't like going to the hairdressers in town, they charge me £30 for a hair cut and never seem to be able to cope with what is not on the menu- everyone in town seems to sport the same haircut!

Loving the new hair, it really suits you and the colour is lovely, something very autumnal about it. It really does make you look like a new woman, deffinatly a change xxx

Very glamorous. I envy how thick your hair is. After my second child I lost a lot of mine. I have fringe bangs and really like them though they have a tendency to curl. I had forgotten my teen years when I had bangs and would tape them to my forehead each night in an attempt to keep them straight.

Forest City Fashionista said...

Awesome new do!!!! Great colour, and you have lovely thick hair to make a great fringe. Loving the red and purple together; it seems to be the combo of choice for a lot of us bloggers these days. You look great, from head to toe!

It's friggin' fabulous, Curtise: the colour, the shape, the sassy fringe (we say bangs in Canada but I've switched to fringe now)! Nothing like a good haircut to shake things up in your world - and I'm a firm believer in bangs; I think they make people look younger (just sayin! Meaning I **always** have them).

That dress is divine. xoxo

Lovely, really lovey. It suits you perfectly. I do love a fringe on others and on me. I tried growing mine out over the summer but it didn't do anything for me, so snippy snippy!
That's a beautiful frock too. Get in there, girl!

You look sexy and saucy!!!

If my head didn't sweat like a pig in a sauna I would SO have a collection of wigs to suit my many moods!!
