Tweed with everything

Fishnets and leopard print...

There's a combination which sounds more suitable for a try out at Spearmint Rhino than the school run.

Yet I think I look rather demure.

Must be the tweed effect.

This Scottish woollen mill was established in 1758 and is still in operation today.

I found this jacket in a charity shop last week.

The style and buttons seem 1950s/early 1960s to me, and it is in really good condition, so I paid a whole tenner for it. I know, pushing the boat out.

I have sold several items on Ebay, so I feel justified. Remember I said I was going to have an autumn clear out?

Gone!

These either didn't fit, didn't suit, or just weren't earning their wardrobe space.

1950s tweed jacket, dress, tights and bangles - charity shopped
Boots - Ebay
Necklace - gift
Victorian micromosaic brooch - charity vintage sale

This jacket has a touch of the crime-fighting lady librarian about it (a look discussed here).

Interestingly, that post was a year ago.

There is obviously something about autumn which calls for a Miss Marple-esque jacket - who knew?

Because I like to mix my eras as well as my metaphors, I also wore the jacket like this;

Lady Fanny, Victorian detective...

...ponders the etiquette of crime-busting when one is a woman of gentility.

1970s maxi skirt, 1970s wool hat and 1950s tapestry bag - flea market
Top, necklaces, bangles, belt and brooch - charity shopped
Jacket and ankle boots - as before

The brooch has real dried flowers under a dome which might be lucite or celluloid, set in a silver tone frame with a simple hook fastening.
It has a 1930-40s look about it, I think.

Anyone know?

Speaking of anyone being able to help out;

Lady Fanny is currently involved in some detective work of a rather personal nature.

She has been informed by a lady of her acquaintance that there is a "tradition" in which a couple getting married take the opportunity at some point during their wedding reception to find somewhere private to, err... consummate their marriage.

No, not after the guests have departed, and the couple wend their weary but triumphant way to the marital bed chamber. During the festivities, while their guests partake of the vol-au-vents and drunkenly dance the Macarena.

Can this be true?

Lady Fanny has attended many a nuptial ceremony, and never noticed the bride emerging from a secret location (where? the toilets? outside, round the back of the kitchen by the bins?) with her lipstick smudged and her dress tucked in her knickers, while the groom follows with his flies undone.

But then she is a spinster of this parish and may not be fully cognisant of wedding rituals.

Can anyone shed any light?
Is my lady friend delusional?
(I fear so.)

Needless to say, if the aforementioned personage ever gets round to having a wedding, Lady F will be paying very close attention.

Surveys may follow on the subject of one night stands, and whether or not there is another "tradition" in which couples are obliged to have sex in every room when they move into a new house.

It's been a day of sexual revelations, accompanied by much hilarity.

How's your Tuesday been?

xxxxx

Lady Fanny, I am sure that demure is your middle name!
I have to say that I am too inexperienced with the ways of modern nuptials to have any knowledge of this disgraceful marriage consumating before the bubbly has had it's proper effect! It's really rather shocking!
Now, I am besotted with this divoon tweed jacket!!! Gorgeous! Tweed certainly does go with everything, as Queenie well knows! It's especially sexy with the leopard frock-ROWR!-and scrummy with that maxi! Todays jewellery has me salivating; those BROOCHES!!!! Gah! I want them BOTH! No idea about the little flower one, but isn't it sweet?! The patchwork bag also deserves a dribble..........
So much to ponder and admire!
Loving YOU! XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

I have a strong belief that leopard print goes with everything, so I think the leopard print with your new to it tweed jacket is smashing. Cute boots too mumma.

Hmmm I can't help with matters of horizontal wedding day tangos, from experience I just don't know how we would have time. As it was when it did come time to tango later, we both nearly fell asleep when hubby had to help me out of my dress which involved undoing a hundred pearl buttons.

No, I think your friend is confusing real life with a Hugh Grant film. Easily done.

Fabulous patchwork capet bag and tweed jacket. Love love love tweed! xxxx

Never heard that one before and iT didn't happen at my wedding reception either !

I never heard of that rowdy tradition either, except for you know, back in the Henry VIII days with proof-of-virginity and all that. I say, it could make those receptions more interesting than the usual canapes and line dancing. Love your new tweed jacket and brooch. xox

Oh .... how great that jacket is! And the combo with the Leo dress is to die for!

NO sex please. We're British.

Oh Lady Fanny, I am loving that librarian detective look! Who would have thought that tweed would go with everything. But it certainly seems to. Well worth a tenner. I haven't heard about the bride and groom finding a moment for a quickie during the reception. Really? Where would they find the time. I was too busy dancing, drinking, and schmoozing to even eat let alone bonk. Have heard about christening each room in a new house though, which seems a bit fraught with danger. Tiny loo? Is your friend just not getting any and a bit obsessed with it all? XXX

!. Tweed jacket is SUBLIME particularly with your hair colour.

2. Lady Fanny need not ponder the etiquette of crime-busting when one is a woman of gentility as I'm sure she has staff to do that kind of thing for her.

3. Are you sure your friend didn't get squiffy whilst watching Muriel's Wedding - no wait - that was the groom and a bridesmaid in the smallest room .....

4. Similar brooch here

Well now I must be an old prude because I was only married 4 years ago and we did not do this, but now I am wondering WHY? Oh I know my Chris would never in a million years go for it...oh well.

You and this tweed I dig it! I recently scored my first tartan dress made in Scotland you will see it this winter! I love the jacket on you and with the leopard and fish nets HOT! and demure :) all at once :)

I had to laugh Cristi just popped over for lunch and I have a picture of all us girls in front of Second to None hanging in the hall. She stopped and did a double take and said dang Curtise is tall....and gorgeous!

I'm certain your lady friend is delusional.
After all as soon as the ring is on the finger ... secret sexual trysts go out the window ... and are replaced by once a week marital bed appointments of the missionary variety ... aren't they??? ;0)

Tweed and leopard will surely be the new trend, now that you've stepped out it this lovely mix. Your new jacket is versatile AND elegant!

I have heard of the "tradition" of which you speak, but cannot discuss the details!

Leopard and fishnets and tweed - oh my! A heavenly combination. And I love both your brooches, and your lady librarian detective look.

I think the wedding tradition you speak of is meant for larger weddings than mine was. A mere 20 people at my parents' house - I think everyone would have noticed our absence. Maybe we'll do it at someone else's wedding, though.

I attended a Wiccan wedding many years ago, where the bride and groom did a "hand-fasting" (their hands were tied together with some ribbon). They weren't allowed to remove the bonds until they had erm...bonded physically. They did disappear for a while, and then appeared sans ribbon!

Sadly, it ended in divorce 7 years later.

Love your tweedy topper - you always find such great deals!

I can't help Lady Fanny out, I'm afraid, I've only been to a handful of weddings and I'm usually too pissed to take much interest in the happy couple. I thought sex stopped with the exchanging of rings, that's why I never got hitched!
I love that jacket on you, what a perfect fit and such a great price - free considering all that selling you've been doing. It's astounding with the leopard and stunning with the maxi.
That patchwork bag make my knees go weak!
Love ya! 10 days and counting! xxxx

Oh I love your new charachter, Lady Fanny is a nosey detective! I didn't know about this tradition either,a bride was really famous here for having sex during her marriage in the toilet..with her husband's best man!
It was a huge scandal but I don't know if it's a true story..probabily something for Lady Fanny? I really love the jacket and the brooch with the dried flowers is stunning, I'd love to find such a wonderful piece, usually you can see similar ones at the antique market and the are too expensive!! I wish you a wonderful week!!

Lady Fanny is most astute, next wedding I go to I will adopt my net curtain twitching persona and observe most diligently, also the christening of new rooms? Mr Foxy has told me this was in the deeds and therefore a legal requirement, I may have been duped - I am salivating over all of your outfits, crime fighting sassy librarian is a look I want, I should commit to some fishnets and a regular leg shave x x x

use the magic brooch dating video. I do love this jacket, it's a gorgeous colour, the colour of the woods right now. It seems to look great with everything. The tapestry bag is really beautiful too. Oh and leopard and fishnets, very sexy indeed. I am also a spinster of this parish, so I have no idea about such rituals!

I have been catching up on all of your hilarious posts of the past couple weeks. I love seeing all your family photos and reading your friend Sue's poem. I'm going through the same wardrobe dilemmas with the ever-changing weather (You absolutely don't look like shit in your pants chance outfit!).
Your leopard dress/tweed jacket outfit looks like something Diana Dors would have worn to look 'respectable.'
No clue on that wedding tradition. Sorry!

Another spinster here so can't shed any light. I'd probably not notice anyway as I 'm usually a bit Brahms and gassing to someones great aunt.
What a lovely 50's jacket, tweed is the new black you know! Xxxxxxx

Love the tweed jacket. I'm a big fan of tweed. Ive been married twice and can confirm that "it" did not happen during the celebrations - I had all on to carry out my wifely duties on the wedding night! xxx

Your tweed jacket is fantastic curtise and you look wonderful in it. that's the wonderful thing about clothes with character, they can nudge one into having a flight of fancy or fantasy as well as looking the biz (as they say).

I had never heard of a tradition for doing 'it' during the wedding party, i thought the bride and groom would be far too busy having their photos taken for hour upon hour to find the time. but every room in a new house yes!

I really properly love that tweed jacket. Everything about it is gorgeous and it fits you like a dream. I love a tweedy spinster look, especially at this time of the year and especially the way you do it with fish nets and sexy little shoe boots, you minx.

Lady Fanny! I'm shocked. In all my born days. Never heard such a thing. Next you'll be telling me people have sex before they get married.

I've definitely heard of the new house tradition. Boys like that one I believe. xxxxxx

Ooooh hello Lady Fanny, what an elegant citizen you are in tweed, boldly investigating matters beyond all propriety.
That jacket is magnificent, totally works with the sexy leopard print too, but really what would Lady Fanny say?

Forest City Fashionista said...

I'm afraid I am not up on the latest nuptial customs either - I haven't been to a wedding in ages! I was the hired photographer at a few several years ago, and thus kept close tabs on the bride and groom, and never noticed any lengthy disappearances.

I would think it would be more likely for some less inhibited guests to try to sneak in some fun during the reception.

Love the tweed - nice shape and colour! Keep up the good work Lady Fanny; inquiring minds want to know the results of your investigation.

Looking the tweed jacket.....and so in love with the mosaic brooch.

OMG the jacket is just fabulous - I am thinking of the 39 steps (the original movie) and I can imagine you in handcuffs! I am still sniggering over all the vagina comments. Keen to read about your research into weddings,

I promise I won't leave a comment on every post Curtise! The pc is starting to b ugger up again anyway so it's making sure I don't, I'm sure you're relieved to hear. Just had to say how fantastic you look here, I love the tweed and leopard print, sexy crime fighting librarian lady! As for the wedding tradition, I don't know about anyone else, but we didn't, I found the whole day totally stressful to be honest, I'm quite shy really and it didn't really dawn on me until I had to go down the lifts of the flats we lived in that I was going to be the centre of attention and I didn't like it! Also we had a three year old and a one year old, our oldest two, so the whole thing was like hard work, we should have eloped. xx
