Modelly

Perhaps Spring is finally here.

I walked to school this afternoon without a coat on!

All the better to show off this beautiful dress, which my dear friend Vanessa sent to me, along with assorted other goodies.

Green beads, a peacock brooch, handmade card, and two Woman's Weekly books.

The dress was one of Vanessa's own favourite frocks - it is time for it to start a new adventure, she wrote, and I am so happy she entrusted this fabulous 1970s dress to me, it fits me perfectly and I adore everything about it.

I did start the day with a jacket.

I like the fact that this outfit exists because of blogging.

The dress and bag are gifts from bloggers, and the boots were bought with Vix at the legendary Second to None in Walsall, which I would never have visited if not for blogging.

I can't tell you how much this delights me!

Velvet jacket, necklaces and bangles - charity shopped
1970s midi dress - gift from sweetest squirrel Vanessa
1970s suede bag - gift from soon-to-be-mum Kelly
1980s boots - Second to None
Brooch - car boot
Sunglasses - vintage shop

In other news, the flea market proved interesting this week. No clothes, but all manner of other treasures came home with me.

I have been on the look out for a globe lamp for ages and finally found one; four early Ladybird books; and my first cardigan clips (the stall holder from whom I bought them seemed impressed that I knew what they were!)

Fabulous 1966 Boyfriend annual.

And these;

Magic lantern slides.

There was a little pile of six (they were tricky to photograph and 2 of the pics were unclear) and I just thought they were beautiful.

No idea what to do with them... I wonder if they could be fixed in a frame somehow and displayed with a light behind them? Any suggestions? They are about 3" square. And how old do you think they might be?

Can I say again how much I love this frock?

(The greens in the print are actually quite vivid, the sunshine has bleached out the colours somewhat.)

Thank you, Vanessa, I'll treasure her.

Here you go, vintage label whores!

I'm all Modelly!

There are jumble sales and vintage markets to go to this weekend, the kids will be here, there and everywhere doing various activities with various friends, and there's a bottle of wine with my name on it in the fridge.

Hope you have fun this weekend!

That Vanessa dress is an absolute dream on you, it's gorgeous and looks fantastic with THOSE boots!
What an exciting parcel. I hope you're going to share some household hints, lord know us slatterns need all the help we can get!
I can't believe you've got that Boyfriend annual, I bought mine from a jumble sale as a teenager as it's my birth year and it's still on my bookshelf now.
You did marvellously at the flea market, I'm getting withdrawal symptoms!
Hope you've got your cardi on now, it's bastard freezing.
Love you! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

How wonderful that you can go out without a coat. It seemed that this time would never come again. And how beautiful you are. That dress is gorgeous and so are the boots. I'm looking forward to seeing you wearing the peacock brooch. Like your thoughts about your outfit that exists because of blogging.

I'm sooooo excited by your purchases today.... I love it all, the boyfriend annual is fantastic, I had something similar but found it so hideously sexist I had to sell it. I really love the magic lantern slides, if they're cheap, please grab me one next time! I'll give you money! I would also be fighting you for the early ladybird books. Lovely Vanessa is so generous, that dress fits you beautifully and it looks so soft and cool. You look gorgeous!
Remember the slides!
ps - love the jacket! xxxxxx

Squee I had those copies of Smoke and Fluff and Ginger's Adventures!

I think what you would need for those slides is a lightbox, not sure where you get them but they are basically a picture frame that is back lit (my friend had the x-ray of her bolted together spine displayed in one!)

What a gorgeous new dress - isn't Vanessa a sweetheart? You look fabulous with your burgundy accents. I adore the children's books, and I swoon for fashion books from the 60's - I love to look back on the styles I was mad for when I was a teen. Great finds, you!

Oh yes! You are certainly very Modelly! Love the 1960's boyfriend guide. Maybe if I'd read that, middle school wouldn't have been so tragic!

So very modelly! You look beautiful as always and I love your comments about the fact this outfit wouldn't exist without blogging. Isn't it just fab we have blogs that link us to friends all over the planet? Also I LOVE that "Boyfriend Annual". The globe lamp is so cool! I think next year Rich and I will have a flat of our own (rather than renting) I can't wait to fill my home with such finery;)

That annual is hilariously fantabulous, but I know nothing about those slides...I DO know, however, that having a bottle of wine with your name on it is pure perfection!
Love you! XXX

Blogging is one of the best things ever imo. So many good things have been possible because of blogging, it's great!
You have made some wonderful finds - I remember having a similar globe when I was a kid, so it's a little trip down memory lane for me :)

Your new header is ultra modelly too. The Faces of Curtise, each one a favourite.
Your treats from Vanessa are wonderful and I'm sure you'll give your new dress her share of new adventures.
I wish I knew how to mount those slides. Maybe Pao would know... Or SpyGirl Anne?

I love the pointy boots, and the cardigan clips. A few weeks ago I bought my first cardigan clips and they are almost as nice as yours.

My my Curtise, you HAVE been busy. Love the new blog header, very modelly indeed. Vanessa's frock is charming and fits you perfectly, love the plum accessories with it, would never have thought of putting that colour with it myself. You will find a light box in a craft shop, Hobbycraft etc. or maybe him indoors could knock you one up. I had one made from an old fish tank with a couple of sixty watt bulbs inside and a frosted perspex lid.

I love love love your header! Thanks for giving me some inspiration there! This green dress has so many reasons to love it. The fit is perfect and green on you is beautiful! Your light up globe is really cool, I've never seen thoses. Blogging buddies really are special! Loved all the bits from all the girls in this outfit- that's cool. Your weekend sounds fun and well deserved-enjoy!

Love your finds and particular the Boyfriend Annual, I'm so digging the hair style on the top right hand side, perhaps one I should try hmmmm. I also giggled at the the bottom right pic with brunette, she's striking a rather Sarah pose don't you think?

I love the green beads and the green dress. The dress looks great on you. That 'Boyfriend' annual looks hilarious. I wonder why the woman in the red dress on the cover has that strange look on her face.

Ooh you are not just Modelly, you are SuperModelly! I absolutely LOVE this gorgeous frock on you - and YOU in it. And I love the purple/green colour combo (why don't I ever think of purple and green together?).

The little slides are gorgeous - could you somehow clip them together and hang them in front of a lamp? or insert them into a lampshade? My expertise is obviously with hot glue and glitter nail polish...

Hope you've had a marvellous weekend, my love, and enjoyed a glass of wine for me!

From a place of love and honesty, that frock is a keeper.

Love yer bits,

Sarah xxx

When I saw Modelly I thought you were referring to your new header with all those amazing shots. I thought it might be your portfolio for one of them there modelling agencies! Snapped up by Select!

But no, it got even better, with that amazing frock. It's so fabulous on you and so touching that it was a gift and was one of Vanessa's favourites, what wonderful generosity.

Bit of a cheeky smile in photo number 3, don't think I hadn't noticed.

1966, great year, Vix will agree I'm sure! Bye Sheffield!! xxxx

The best part of this post is your realization that your outfit would not have existed without blogging! Such a pretty dress, and I like it paired with the purple and burgundy. Saturday was warm enough here to go without a coat. I've never seen a globe lamp - how cool is that?
