Doesn't the weekend roll around quickly?
I don't know where this week has gone.
I had all sorts of plans for sewing, including altering something to wear to my fabulous friend Tamera's birthday party tomorrow, but the time has got away from me...
So here I am, in my hand-me-down dress from who knows where, ready to join all the fabulous ladies at tomorrow's party!
I have been on the hunt for a 1960-70s stainless steel pendant, and have finally found one.
Although it isn't marked anywhere, I like to think it was made here in Sheffield, the UK's Steel City.
1970s English Lady maxi dress - flea market
Ankle boots - community fair
1960-70s suede jerkin - gift from much-missed Lucy
1970s suede bag - gift from new human-growing Kelly
Necklaces and ring - charity shopped
We spent a lovely day with my dear friend Patsy and her daughter, browsing the charity shops, going for coffee, and introducing them to our favourite Chinese restaurant.
Patsy's daughter behaved impeccably and took this photo for me.
You can see what my kids were like...
I told you - they've gone feral.
I was looking on Youtube for clips of Nico and the Velvet Underground singing All Tomorrow's Parties, but all the examples I saw were Nico in her more ravaged later years, and I wanted to show her at her most iconic and beautiful.
So here's the song, accompanied by some stunning photos of a gorgeous woman.
And here, there is a great clip of her singing Femme Fatal (I wasn't able to embed it, but do go and watch it.)
Have a delightful weekend, check out the party frocks over at Tamera's!

Isn't this amazing? I refer to Nico and the Velvet Underground on my blog post today too! What are the chances of that? We are twins from a different country, aren't we?
Love that fabric in your maxi. In fact, that is my favorite fabric pattern from the 70's. Stunning stainless pendant too! Now I'll be on the lookout for one as well.
I bought something stainless from a thrift store today...except mine was a large pot for brewing beer!
Love the feral kid shot!
oh yeah......and I'm FIRST MUTHAFUKERS!
PFFFFFFFT SECOND!!!
You look fabulous in your fantastic maxidress!!
Your children don't look feral--they are adorable!
Yay, I can post a comment! Quick before it locks up...you look fabulous. Have a great weekend.
Ha ha! I love the comment about your kids going feral. Mine always were too. Someone said to me once, "You are the lady with 6 children." I said, "No, it's just 4." She said, "No. Six." (Like I would not know!!) I said, "It just seems like 6."
hahahaha
And you look LOVELY!!! Have fun!!
xoxo

Great necklace! And the "ferals" are too adorable - such positive energy they have!
Fab necklace! I swear your suede vest/jerkin and my purple one are twins, separated at birth!
See you at the party!
Oh your cute kids!! I always play Nico when I'm baking. I don't know why. Things just turn out better when I do.
You scored on that pendant, it's beautiful. Red and purple should be worn more often together, your outfit rocks.

I love your pendant Curtise. I don't wear much jewellery, but I'd make an exception for that. Its got a lovely mid-century look about it. Look how sweet littlest looks, not feral at all, just cute and cheeky (like her brother and sister) x
Fabulous frock! I remember those stainless stell pendants - I had one with a blue stone and a ring to match! Wonder what happened to it? Have a great weekend.

I love the Missoni-esque maxi and that stunning jerkin. I've a love of Sheffield stainless jewellery, too.
The inventor of stainless steel was a Brearley so I'm hoping he's a distant ancestor & I can stake my claim to his fortune.
The kids gone feral is brilliant, cheeky little buggers.
See you at the party later!
Love ya! xxxxxx
The new pendant looks great and the suede bag is a lovely colour. Your 'ferals'look like they are having a great time.:)
Looking fabulous! I have a very feral 2.5 year old here at home - eek! Scarlett x
Vix is right, your maxi does have a distinct nod to Missoni. Gorgeous pendant, got me a couple today in the most fab junk shop, shame the camera was absent. Feral kids...? normal, I'd say. xx
Wow that stainless steel pendant takes me right back to Christmas morning, probably 1974. My sister got a make your own jewellery kit and there was a pendant just like that. She had to stick the stone on the metal basically, although there was a bracelet and a ring to make too. I was all over her, breathing down her neck asking if she needed help doing it. She didn't, it turns out.
Love the pic of your kiddywinkles dancing around doing bunny ears behind you while you smile the smile of a woman whose seen it all before.
Happy birthday party in your great frock! xxxx
Nico was stuning indeed. And it's a shame that her solo career doesn't get more attention- she was a great song writer as well!
Your long dress is awesome, it's got lovely colours (I love warm colour combos like that) and it looks really good on you!
I'm looking forward to a charity shopping day as well! Meep!
I just love this zig zag pattern of this skirt and what great colors
I can see this skirt shortened and looking great too
Brett
Love this zigzag fabric - is there some special name for that pattern? I see it around from time to time - pretty colour on you as well. I basically ALWAYS have epic plans for sewing, but they rarely seem to happen "sigh", why do I have to work? Why can't I just be paid to be awesome then I could sew ALL the time :D
Hello Miss Curtise , oh so many wonderful posts with as always fabulous outfits!!!!!
I am quickly poping in to say hi to my favourite blogs before the big move.
I hope you have a great weekend and the kiddies aren't too ferrel!!! They are so cute.
Love and happiness.
V
I agree with Vix. Your maxi is very Missoni and flows beautifully with the suede jerking, bag and ankle boots. And what a beautiful pendant! You blog is a never ending pleasure for me.
Love your 70s style Curtise, Lucy's jerkin found the perfect home with you too, you obviously love it. And your kids look so cute and mischievous, not feral at all, just happy and full of fun. I love the VU and Nico too, I always liked the singers whose voices are not so perfect but full of character, plus I can sing along to them which is a bonus. Thank you too for your lovely comment on my blog, I didn't say it in my post but you remind me of Kurt a bit, you both have the same wit, wisdom and warmth in your writing. xx
Yay, you found a stainless steel Mod pendant, and it's orange just like mine! (In my mind this truly makes us even more true style sisters). The chevron skirt is dreamy and it's so nice to see you wearing the bag - it totally suits you. Xoxo
You're looking elegant as always!! The kids look like they're having great fun, I suspect they just thought they'd bugger up mums blog pics!
I really love Nico, her music is one of my greatest inspirations and I often listen to her albums, Desertshore is in my top ten favourites ever!
Your 'Missoni tribute' maxi dress is stunning and I love the suede clutch bag..and the weeks roll around fast, but weekends faster, happy Sunday!
Love xxxx
Hee hee, I like your feral children. Your expression is like you already know about the hand-sign.. :-)
I do like that suede vest, and it pairs so well with your dress. Mooching round charity shops then chinese food sounds like heaven xx
I do like a nice jerkin! Lovely outfit today. I do like listening to Nico occasionally. Quite a sad, messed up life reflected in that somber grinding voice xxx
Shiny shiny, shiny boots of leather. You look gorgeous. I miss Lucy in blogland and her presents are always the best. The chevron pattern is fantastic. You always look 6ft in these photos. How are the feral kids? Are you glad they're back at school tomorrow? sorry, I'm so far behind! Xxxx
Ok so I really wanna see this magnificent skirt in real life, the colors have me happy already this morning! I know I'm catching up :) That jerkin is getting its wear Lucy was a dear for seeing how perfect it would be on you! I do miss her too!! Love feral kids...are there any other kind?
xxooo
I love The Velvet Underground and as a teen was obsessed with Andy Warhol. The Velvet Underground and The Doors were my soundtrack to drink cherry wine too but I always bailed out on their first album midway through the B-side when it started to get all weird! But anyway, I love this outfit, this look really suits you and the pendant is wonderful!
