Willkommen Bienvenue Welcome

It's been a dull wet Monday.

I needed something to cheer myself up.

So what would you do if you found these in a charity shop?

Fishnet seamed tights and a rather moth-eaten old bowler hat.

Isn't it obvious?

You would ignore the pile of ironing, the vacuuming, and the endless other domestic chores of doom, and spend the afternoon dressing up as Sally Bowles.

Don't pretend you wouldn't.

I hadn't seen the 1972 film of Cabaret for years, but stumbled across it on TV a while back and stayed up past my bed time to watch it. I had forgotten what a fabulous film it is. And I'm not really a big fan of musicals (apart from Grease!)

I think I like it because it's a musical where the songs occur naturally, since it is set in a cabaret club.
And it's political, sexy, and oh so stylish.

Much like myself....

Velvet longline waistcoat, shorts, fishnets, shoe boots, bowler hat, bangles and beads - all charity shopped; false eyelashes - Ebay

Somebody invite me to a fancy dress party, for God's sake. Or a Sing-along-a-Cabaret!

These ridicilously huge tranny false eyelashes were last seen here. I am definitely a drag queen trapped in a real woman's body.

I think that's another reason why I like Cabaret - the styling of the dancers in the Kit Kat Club isn't pretty-pretty, they look quite masculine and tranny-esque, sexy but a bit scary...

Much like myself...

That's a joke, by the way. I'm not sure whether it's always clear when I'm joking...

So I heartily recommend ditching your chores, charity-shopping/thrifting something crazy, and spending an afternoon recreating an iconic look. For no other reason other than that you can.

Really, you can.

Divine decadence, darlings!

And if anyone from the PTA is looking...

...that isn't me.

Yet I've never seen cabaret. But you look stunning.

Wow, this is fantastic Curtise! You look awesome! I'm going to have to watch that movie again sometime. I saw it when it first came out in the theaters and was probably my first movie without my parents. You are a natural in this look. I hope your PTA group can appreciate that! You could probably rake in the dough at a fund raiser. ;)

Oooh, I could wax lyrical about Cabaret all day. One of my all time favourite films, and Sally Bowles is one of my top style icons. I harbour secret desires of appearing on stage as Sally Bowles, but I doubt it will ever happen. This look rocks my socks! Hope you're wearing green nail varnish too? Xx

I'm really into your posts, they are always brilliant and ironic and I understand that being a real desperate housewife, like me, makes all your playful attitude coming out!
It's a pity that I've watched Cabaret only when I was a kid, but in my imaginary Liza Minnelli will always be Sally Bowles! The bowler hat is lovely, I'd love to find one too and the eyelashes are huge and fabulous!!
Great outfit!
Hugs and kisses xxxxx

Yowza Curtise - you have got the most fabulous legs (and why don't we see them more often?)!! Cabaret is one of my all time favourites, and I dressed as Sally Bowles for a costume party fundraiser about 15 or so years ago, in a very similar outfit to yours, although shorts and vest were shorter and tighter (I was younger then and had no shame) which is probably why I won first prize for the costume ;)

Awesome! Life really should be a Cabaret. Love the seamed stockings.

Liza eat your heart out!

Great pins Curtise.

Still no parcel from me???

A "helpful" lady at the P.O. told me it could be stuck in customs waiting for you to pay duty on it. This is because I (think) I stupidly wrote that the value of it was more than $25. I had no idea that this would be (could be) the case Curtise, and I am so sorry/upset about it. Apparently they (Royal Mail) are really cracking down on it.
Who knows...

I love you!!! It's that simple. This is exactly what one should do when the laundry piles up, the weather's uncooperative, and life lacks that luster. Create your own!!! You look amazing (OMG those legs!!). I've actually never seen the movie but I do know you've captured an iconic moment. I LOVE!!!!! this post.

You totally cheered me up! I vote this Post of the Year in the style blogosphere. I read somewhere that ironing is hazardous to one's health anyways.

You are born for the stage! You look fabulous!! I would invite you over to sing with me and dance around like crazy vamps. I also like belting out the songs from Sweet Charity. Marlene Dietrich, her too, "Falling in love again." Too bad we're not neighbours...

You and Liza could be twins. We need to see a video of your moves!!

I'm not into musicals either Curtise and can't understand why people rave about them. You look bloody amazing in this outfit, very sexy and I hope the PTA DO see it! Those eyelashes are outrageous, very drag queen.
Don't think I've seen the film, was that Michael York I glimpsed at the end?

You are rocking the bejayzus out of those fab stockings and the perfectly splendid bowler. You're no idiot: I hope you know you look amazing! Can't wait to play dress ups with you one day, mi amor! Love! Sarah xxx

"If anyone from the PTA is watching" ha ha. Well, this is one of my fave posts of yours. I can hardly think of a better way to spend a dreary afternoon than dressing up for an impromptu photo shoot. The main thing I remember about Sally Bowles are those long emerald nails (and the disturbing nazi thing). I dare you to go and pick the kids up in that attire. You'd certainly turn some heads with those fantastic pins!! xxx

My favorite post! You are truly a show stopper and you propose the perfect activity for a day when home chores are more unappealing than usual. 'Political, sexy and stylish' leap out from my screen and I thank you for the Tuesday morning performance. Brava!!!

You have much better legs than Liza.

This should be the next PTA fundraiser, I bet every dad in the school would buy a ticket to see you high kicking it on the school stage! Totally and utterly bloody fabulous, your legs are to die-for and I love those false lashes, you wear them like a pro! xxxxxxx

If I had legs like that I'd be marching down the street in that outfit! Fab outfit, you totally rock it and now you make me want to rent Cabaret, which I haven't seen. I hope this isn't too mea sounding, but if you lived in north-western England in the wee town I did for four months, you'd blend in with the local girls in those eyelashes!

WOWZERS! You look really stunning! Love the legs and how on earth did you find such a cheap bowler hat? And the tranny lashes are amazing! xxxxx

This is the obvious thing to do when you find such gems! You are looking all kinds of hotness in your Sally Bowles attire.

You are so hot I had top look again. I was teasing Helga about this post telling her she has no idea what she has missed.

You are a STAR. The most divine Sally I've seen. :D FIERCE. I love everything about this..I think I know what's on the agenda for me tomorrow. ;) Cabaret is one of my favorites, too. I was in it a million years ago, and it was a dark and magical experience. And I love and agree with what you said about the whole not pretty-pretty esthetic. I can't wait for my inner drag queen to meet your inner drag queen, and just paint and dance and bask in the sunshine. Speaking of, YAY for sunshine!!! :)
