Guess who?

Some days you need an old faithful.

This 1970s dress is always on stand-by for those what shall I wear? days. The weather is drizzly and overcast but not cold, I find it hard to know what to wear.

Dress (vintage shop), denim jacket, shoes, tights and bracelets (charity shops), beads (gift from new mum Liz)

I received a fabulous book for my birthday from my old friend Sally, called Lifestyle Illustration of the 60s, edited by Rian Hughes. Full of wonderful magazine illustrations, they capture so much about the time they were published.

As I flicked through, I couldn't help spotting a few images which reminded me of bloggy pals...

 Sarah Misfits aplenty!

A trio of Kristas.

A fabulous Vix-a-like.

Here's Joni!

Claire and her (rather orange) boyfriend in the Chiltern hills.

Sara's gettin' cosy...

Triple funky Ariane.

Melanie's off to the festival on her scooter.

All the Desiree look-a-likes were in their cossies or scanties... I know what that fella in the top right pic is thinking!

Heavenly Helga, bet she's having fun Stateside.

Melanie's beautiful curls.

Aren't they just fabulous?

Me? Well, on a good day...

I'd love that frock!

Oh so THAT's what that frock looks like! It's GORGEOUS and so are you! I love the wonderful illustrations... especially ALL OF THEM (though Desiree's spunky dude checking out her lady garden is particularly spectacular) and you're so right about mine... every single one of those paintings is of me!

From a place of love and honesty, you're frickin FABULOUS, darling!

Love you more than flowers, Sarah xxx

Oh not on a good day, everyday!!!! You look fabulous in this gorgeous wee dress, love the length. I love a maxi on you, but it's great to see those lovely legs. The little red Mary janes are fabulous.
All of the pics you picked are SO all the amazing ladies you matched.

What a treasure trove that book is! I adore 60s and 70s fashion illustrations. The Vix-a-like is my favorite; I want that outfit.

I've always loved those fashion illustrations. So 70's and the era when I was first experimenting with make up and picking out my own clothes. You know, you mentioned not owning any graphic tees, etc...and I only own one dress and only one maxi dress. ONE! Can you believe it? I can't even believe it. In fact, the only dress I owned in high school was my senior prom dress. I don't know if I'm an official tomboy, or what. I do have three skirts but they're more of an alternate to pants. Dresses are all out girlie. I don't know what's wrong with me because I do love them on other people. Excuse me for rambling...I've had an extra glass of wine tonight. Not bubble bath wine. ;)

What wonderful illustrations. I love the way you have linked them to vintage bloggers.
I can see why you fall back o that dress - it looks great on you, especially with the red shoes.

Wow those illustrations are brilliant they have cheered me up on yet another wet grey day. I know just what you mean about knowing what to wear. I refuse to wear tights and boots though it's July we should be in flip flops and having lovely outside picnics etc but i keep saying to myself we have time still got August and September ;-)) You look gorgeous in your outfit loving those red shoes. dee xx

Those illustrations are wonderful, you've got us all there! They remind me of the pictures on the front of dressmaking patterns, far more aspirational than the crappy pre-pubescents air-brushed into oblivion in magazines these days! I want to see more!
Love your go-to frock. It's a nightmare getting dressed in this weather, everything looks so drab and mundane or just trying too hard.
Have you pinched Stephen Squirrel? I haven't seen him this morning and your garden looks way better than ours. xxxxxxxxxx

you picked the perfect look a likes! Melanie really does look like a art nouveau influenced 60s lady. And I can imagine the other Melanie riding off on a scooter. I love the one of me, I want my dress. Mike's hair not face is orange so that's almost correct! You look very glam on your swingseat at the bottom. I love your dress and the tights/shoes combo is fantastic! It may be old faithful but you never ever look boring xxx

Fabuloso post Curtise, have loved looking at those wonderful illustrations and your very amusing observations. What a gorgeous dress, just perfect for this crappo weather (when will it end?) and altho it's said that 'blue and green should never be seen' I think it's bollocks! Your pics get better and better, have you got a new camera or is it the operator who's shit hot?

I'd much rather see illustrations like that than airbrushed celebs and stick thin androgenous models! Mind you I don't buy magazines.

The beautifully bright shoes provide the perfect spot of color with your vintage dress and denim jacket. The images that you highlight catch the essence of each blogger - very fun.

I love these illustrations, they need to be framed although I am sure you don't want to ruin the mag. What a fun idea to compare them to your bloggy friends, love the last one and got a chuckle out of the girls writing in the sand with the fella behind her. Great dress and shoes. Your gardens are so lush and gorgeous. dawn suitcase vignettes xo

What a fun book, Curtise! I love the way you connected them to all the stylish ladies and yourself as well. I've heard the weather has been horrible and endlessly rainy in England. You can come here where it was 40 degrees C with the humidex yesterday! YUCK.

Our cats could be twins! I'll have to post a picture next go round to show you! So cute! And the flowers are beautiful. I love pansies. :) XOXO

I love the print on that dress, and the brilliant flowers in your garden! You did an excellent job of matching the sassy dolls in the magazines with their real life counterparts! I miss cool illustrations in magazines too!

Oooh, I love that dress! I have a go-to dress as well, but it isn't as nicely patterned as yours.
