Makes my soul trip away

We Brits could be forgiven for forgetting what the sun looks like this summer.

Ahhh - that's better!

I had forgotten all about this maxi dress.

It was another of my 99p Ebay scores from last year, but it kind of got lost amongst all my vintage maxis. I do love the digital floral print though.

Only thing is, it seems to have grown after a year of drooping on a coathanger. I'm 5'8" and wearing 3" heels, and I still keep treading on the hem.

Or have I shrunk?

I am reading Alice's Adventure's in Wonderland to Littlest at the moment. Another thing I had forgotten - what a weird and wonderful book it is, and how much I love the original John Tenniel illustrations.

Disney's Alice? Oh please.

Although this trippy floral still from the cartoon rather reminded me of my frock.

And here is our very own Cheshire Cat...

...not smiling, but showing his arse, again.

Anyhow, it's been no trouble to hitch up my frock and bask a little in the very welcome sunshine today.

Maxi dress (Ebay), hair flower and assorted bangles (charity shopped), sunglasses (vintage shop), skull/pearl/bead necklace (made by darling Krista, currently frolicking with Helga'n'G), sun (glorious gift from the Universe)

Cast your eyes like summer skies.

Yes, yes, summer skies, you are a goddess soul tripper in that last photo. Only you exist in the world in that shot. Wonderful!! And the pose fits the music clip that I'm playing while writing this.

I haven't read Alice in Wonderland in a long, long time. The sense of lurking danger in the tale always upset me as a child. I should give it another go.

I hate that song!

How weird you mention Tenniel's illustrations...wait until I blog my finds from the Milton Keynes Vintage Fair tomorrow and you'll see!

Lovely frock as usual!

I remember this song! I've had it on my mind recently regarding the weather - as I'm writing this it's thunder and lightning, but it was nice earlier! What a gorgeous dress! I love Alice, the original illustrations and the 50s disney, but not the latest monstrosity!

Maxi dresses are great, vintage or not it's hard to mess up the maxi dress look, it's item of clothing. I really like this one, I'm the same height as you I never mind that extra length in a maxi.

You are beautiful in your sunny English garden! Great idea to search for maxi dresses on ebay. I went to the doc just yesterday and discovered I'm an inch shorter....at 52?? I didn't think that happened until we were in our 60's or 70's. Anyway, I am now 5'8 as well. I do think some of these fabrics stretch when they hang. Might be time for a hem job!

Fabulous dress. Sometimes maxi dresses have very busy patterns on them but I love the big, non repeating floral on this dress.

Your last photo reminds me of this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lolU8qKRmJ4&feature=related

That dress is lovely. I have probs tripping up on my maxis and I'm always wearing TopShop tall!!

And I love that song too!!

You've probably shrunk in all the feckin rain. We've had ten minutes or so of sunshine here, in between massive rain storms and claps of thunder. A maxi dress would be like wearing a sponge :(

It's a gorgeous 99p bargain though x

That dress is gorgeous, perfect for the sunshine! Thanks for the parcel, will drop you a line shortly x

How lovely. We have to make the most of these short bursts of sunshine don't we? I love Alice, one of my favourite stories ever, totally whacky. Xx

ooh god that sun looks so good. i do love flowers on a black background and though i'd never wear a maxi (i'm 5'3 and 3/4's) i'd love something in black/magenta like that x

Hurray for sunshine! I love the poses. As for shrinking, you're too young for that. I've lost a quarter of an inch thus far...unless I stretch.

So pleased you saw some sun today, darn sarf we had guess what ? Torrential rain, thunder and lightening. I had to stay in and indulge in indoor activities.
Love your maxi, you do them so well. What a fabularsehole (Helga must be home soon ?) bargain at 99p. I must say your al fresco posturing looks very uninhibited, were the neighbours out?
Haven't seen the Disney Alice, is it a CG nasty?

I love the print!!! It's true that it recalls the Disney Alice's flowers (even if I always hate them, they are so tedious!!)..I love the original book so much and the illustrations are great, I've heard that Carrol himself want them to look exactly in that way! Enjoy the sun rays!
Lots of love xxxxxxx

Amor,
Gorgeous maxi flowery bargain!
We had sun for half hour ,then I put out my washing and the clouds cameback. I'm used to my clothes drying in about 15 minutes.
Old skool Alice is one of my faves.

Now this is how rocking a floral pattern and showing your arse should be done :)

I have to say that I like the length on this stunner of a maxi. It looks rather dramatic and 'sweeping.' Especially during glamorous poses in the garden with the sun.

As I type it's 6.30am ish and the sun is just peeping out fromt he clouds - it must be your magic dress. Lovely.

I've always liked the idea of maxis, but everything off the rack is short on me. They look fab on you xxx
I used to work in a first school and once read Alice in Wonderland out to the class of five year olds I was with and afterward they were questioned to see if they were paying attention. Their take was Alice ate a potato and got pushed down a hole, hehe.

I am jealous of your glorious summer weather - soak it up!

Lovely frock - but it does seem terrible long, perhaps it stretched out on the hanger?

I must agree with you about Alice in Wonderland, the Disney style just isn't the "real" Alice at all!

Yay for sunshine, long may it last!!! That dress is a beauty, love the drapery around the booboids. I bet you could cut a few inches off the hem without the need to hem it.
I'm liking the fact that the hipsters are tiring of their maxis and getting rid, all the more for us!
Yep, Disney's far too twee apart from the Cheshire Cat and those sweet pansies, which I'd forgotten about, the original illustrations are a masterpiece!

That is one gorgeous maxi, funny how it "grew" *lol* I don't think I have ever had a growing dress before.
But what imagine happened is that you got the bottom wet and the flowers grew a little more and stratched the dress out in length. ;)

It doesn't matter a jot the dress is not vintage, it looks fabulous. I am a big fan of flowery maxis, and that was a proper bargain.

I'm not a huge Alice fan, the original illustrations put me off as a child. I was always of a nervous disposition, so I won't be watching the latest version either - what did they do to Johnny Depp?!

that is one gorgeous dress, Curtise. I had heard that the weather in England...well, the SUMMER has been nonexistent. Glad you had a lovely day to showcase your maxi dress!

You look so delicious and lovely in your maxi and sunshiny garden!! I love the print. I can feel you embracing the warmth and, although I'm loving our rain the past few days, you make it look sooooo good.

So jealous of your height, you get to wear such strong colors and prints. As much as I love that dress, it would look like it was wearing me.
I think there's some pact among all dogs and cats to only show their rear ends to the camera. If you see his or her face, it's because their person has them in a death grip.
I hope the sun stays out and your dress stops growing!

Oh yay you finally got some lovely sunshine (me too!) - you look SPLENDID in that fab maxi - the colours are GORGEOUS and you look positively willow in this lovely frock. LOVE! Sarah xxx

I firmly believe the dress stretched. We're too young to be shrinking! Wish I could share some of our sun and hot temperatures with you. Soak it up while you can! Totally with you on the Tenniel illustrations - will not read the book without them.

What glorious sun!

I LOVED Alice and Wonderland- the original book, illustrations. Lucky for me I don't even register the Disney for the memories. It is indeed strange and wonderful- that book and the Oz series has a most definite impact on my imagination.
