I never promised you a rose garden

One of the reasons we bought our house, 10 years ago now, was the garden.

By many people's standards, it's not very big or anything special. But we live in a smallish terraced house, and many that we looked at had small outdoor spaces. This was the biggest garden we saw attached to a house we could actually afford!

It's a long narrow space, but it has small terraces, lawn, pebbles, stone, decking, trees, flowers, sometimes vegetables and strawberries, and room enough for sitting, playing, barbequeing, socialising, and general pottering.

                                                                          And for posing, of course.

The ornamental cherry tree is a monster, but has beautiful blossom.

The birdbath and the statue were here when we moved in.

                                                                             I'm rather fond of her.

                                                                           Be still my bleeding heart.

Jessie loves being out and about.

                                                                                    So do I.

                                                                               This is Willow.

                                                                         The garden makes me happy.

It may not be Kew Gardens, but I hope you enjoyed the 50p tour, it was at the lovely Ariane's request!

Wallis maxi dress and cardigan, bangles, hair flower and necklace - all charity shopped.

And for no better reason than my love for old country classics - here you go. Sing along, admire Lynn's magnificent yellow frock, and wonder what the hell the audience are dancing to, cos it sure isn't this song!

Your garden is lush Curtise, I'm so envious and it's very well kept, who is the gardener I wonder? I Love cottagey plants like honesty and bleeding heart and they look perfect in your back garden. Fabbo snaps of you and the cats (how do you get them to pose so well, Prudy is off like a shot as soon as I point a lens in her direction) Gorgeous dress, you do maxi's so well and divine colour combo.

A proper English garden, I said this with a British accent of course! I love your garden and it is the perfect size, I would trade my monster yard for this quant space anytime! Bleeding hearts are my absolute favorite flower and they grow so easily here too. I love all the little touches and the kit tie well she is so sweet, but we know they are all a bit naughty.

The prettiest flower in your yard though is you my dear, long lean and just lovely. Triple L's that's you! I've missed you my dear!
XOXO

Beautiful garden, I can see the appeal, must be great for the children too. I only have a paved yard, but am no gardener and live with a very lazy man, so it's a good job!
Your photography is improving by the week, Curtise, as is your posing. I demand all shots to be taken outdoors now, even if it's a nightwear shot!

Love the dress, all lengths suit you, but you really have the right body type for a maxi.

LOvely garden. It reminds me of the back gardens in the Shirley Hughes' books. I used to love reading Dogger and Annie and Alfie Rose wishing my life was as uncomplicated as those families!

Very pretty. My daughter just said she wished it was ours..."I don't like all those spiky things in ours" Ouch! (she's referring to my cacti and succulents)

OH I LOVED THE TOUR, LOVE, LOVE, LOVED IT!!! What a beautiful garden you have. I completely covet the statue, I have to tell you. I'm so excited that it was left there for you. What a wonderful space. I'm working on making my backyard beautiful. My grandmother did nothing with it for years and years and years. I hope it's an oasis like yours one day.

What a glorious garden you have. Those tall, skinny houses look kind of funny to us Aussies. LOVE the maxi frock, & your gorgeous purring friends too. Xx

I love the garden! I wish I had one, but apartment living doesn't allow for such things *sigh*

Maybe when we FINALLY buy our own house we will have a garden.

I want that blond hair! Those shags (haircuts!) and sideburns are groovy. I think I saw some people doing the swim. What WERE they dancing to?!

I am in love with your garden. It is definitely the most alive garden along your street - bits of Curtise spilling out most wonderfully. You look wonderful in your maxi!

I grew up with a very long Victorian terrace garden so I have a great fondness for them. It's a really lovely garden and I miss having kitties!

Oooh Curtise, I love your garden, especially the ornamental cherry tree! You've really used every bit of the space available and it's a lovely hideaway. Your kitties are adorable--I've always had a soft spot for tabbies.

I love your garden. The bigger the garden the more work... Yours is a perfect size. It looks so pretty and lush.
I suppose Jessie & Willow are the more shy kitties as I never see them near as much as the cheeky Charley!

It's a lovely garden, and it's so lovely that it's full of memories (want to come over and spruce up mine? I'm at a loss in that area). I remember that song!

Ooh it's so beautiful and green and lush! Australian gardens look so brown and scrubby in comparison. Your flowers are all gorgeous - and so are YOU in that lovely maxi. You're all willowy and whimsical and delightful. Thanks for the lovely pics. Love! Sarah xxx

It's a lovely garden and I bet you got value for money with it! I think long, narrow gardens can be much more interesting than wide, square ones. DId you know Bleeding Heart (Dicentra) is also known as Lady In The Bath and Dutchman's Britches (can you guess why?!).
