Dolly Day Dreaming

Busy busy busy this morning; shopping for the food for the school Christmas fair next week, and finalising volunteer lists.

Now, I must confess I didn't wear this to Lidl and B&M Bargains (affectionately known round these parts as Bum Bargains).

I spotted this fabulous 1970s dress in a charity shop on Monday for a mere fiver, and a quick underarm to underarm measurement with Mrs M McCalman's tape measure indicated that despite being labelled a size 14 (that's about a 10 in today's money), it might be OK.

OK?

It's more than OK, it's discotastic!

I am pleased as punch that it fits, it's going to be my Christmas party frock.

I just need to be invited to some parties now.

And be able to attend (work is already interfering with my social life; that's no good, is it?)

But for the purposes of trying on and showing off, I swanned about in the garden in a disco Dolly Day dream, with added feathers and sequins.

1970s Dolly Day maxi dress, most of the bangles, hairband, shoe boots and feather boa - charity shopped
Rings - had them years
Sequin clutch bag - gift from the divinely inappropriate Helga

I know, I know - I was all grumpy about wearing black for work.

But it's amazing the difference a chiffon frill and some diamante can make. I feel love!

Flower? Starburst? Dandelion clock?

Thank you for being so supportive and encouraging while I moaned on about about my new girl angst. I know I'll get the hang of it and feel more competent at work soon. I'll stop whining now and just get on with it!

So what disco classic might be the soundtrack to your weekend?

Staying Alive?
Boogie Nights?
Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now?
Car Wash?

Whatever you're dancing to, I hope you have Good Times!

xxxxx

Oh I say, what a fabulous dress at an even fabulousser price! There's a black 70's dress in one of our chazzers and they want £65 for it. It's been there for weeks not surprisingly.
The shoe boots are equally awesome.
My soundtrack will be 'More More More' as I plan my next assault on this house!
Have a great weekend! xxxx

You ride that thrifting high, Curtise! Ain't no stopping you now. Clearly the thrift gods smiled upon you with this awesomely "look out, Curtise has entered the room" dress. People who see this post will be emailing you ragged with party invites. I'm boogyin' to Car Wash this weekend (the song, not the act). Thanks for the reminder.

WOW! You look incroyable! Not sure why I've come over all French. But there we go.... I've just recently rediscovered One Nation under a Groove. Which is not quite the disco classic in the same sense as your disco classics but still a classic. Have a fabulous weekend. Xx

I shall be doing some wedding dancing at the weekend. I have confidence there will be some good TOONS! The groom is known to favour Ricky Martin. :D Should be fun! xxxxxxxx

I'm getting Victorian Badass from this dress. You look so gorgeous. I'm so happy to see that you've embraced the dark side (fellow wearers of black) Welcome. I'm dancing to "Shake Your Booty" as mine is getting rather large and much more shakeable.

Disco song that you bring to mind: "Hot Stuff" by Donna Summer! That's a fabulous dress for your party season (we call it "party season" over here at the Manor : > ). The black shoes are killah, too. xoxo

I definitely laughed when I saw it was black, after what you said about wearing black, but it looks fantastic on you!

I'll be having a bedside shuffle to Cerrone's Supernature.

You look hot Curtise! Smokin in fact. Burb baby burn (it's a disco inferno) x

You do look fetching in black. "Victorian badass" made me lol! We're getting down to 'english country garden' here. Claud has a ballet show in a couple of weeks, shes going to be a dancing hollyhock i believe. Sick of the song so have resorted to teaching her the school yard versions!
Happy weekending x

You look hot in your new frock and I'm green with envy over the price. C'est IMPOSSIBLE to find deals like that here in the thrift shop (though I did just find a fab purse for 5 euros, not too shabby). The booties are just so dreamy - they look vintage-y or are they contemporary? The song that I'm grooving to this weekend is, "Shut up, cat, you've woken the baby again!". Xoxo

The first week at a new job, or even a new position with the same company, always feels horrible, maybe because we place so much pressure on ourselves to do everything perfectly immediately, when we need to be a little gentler on ourselves, especially when learning new stuff.

This dress simply must have a party. Or date night with hubby? :)

You are hereby invited to my gala awards event on Wednesday if you can make it to Victoria, BC, Canada by then! :) This is a smashing dress on you, Curtisse! You look gorgeous!

My Lord! That dress is killer in every way...I totally adore it! You look so very elegant adorned that way! The boa is brilliant, as are the other accessories - WoW! Again, I stand amazed at whet you find at the charity shops...I want to come along with you on a shopping spree!

That is one sexy frock, check out that sizzling hot bod. Maybe you should wear it to work - it is black, after all. I bet Debenhams' menswear would have a bastard massive influx of customers if they saw you in that!
Frills, slinkiness, bling and a fiver - deffo ticks all the boxes. Loving those shoe boots, too.
Our soundtrack has been Jon's boombox blasting out PiL and Public Enemy - anything to drown out the screechy 1940s torch singers so beloved at vintage fairs!
You can come to my party anytime!
Love you! xxxxxx

what a fantastic dress!!
And it's black--which is dress code--so why not wow them at work by swanning in in that dress?? You would definitely be a sensation!!

I already had such affection for Mrs M McCalman's tape, and then it helped you into this dress, holy smokes!!! It would Ring My Bell for sure, and if you were near, well, I would have to have a Christmas party, just so you could wear it! xoxo

Ah such beautiful shoes to go with your beautiful disco dress Curtise, and your comment about work interfering with your social life made me laugh, you would get on so well with my daughter, she's always saying that. Can't think of the disco song that summed up my weekend yet, with Christmas coming, it was probably 'Money Money Money'xx

Forest City Fashionista said...

You glamourous thing! Nothing like slinky black with frills and bling to make you feel flirty and perky. $5 won't buy you anything in a secondhand shop here except a stretched out t-shirt, so you got an amazing bargain. I'd go to a party with you in that any day!

My soundtrack has been David Bowie all weekend after seeing the exhibit about him on Friday.
