Friday frocks and festivities

I had some lovely lady friends round for coffee and cake this morning, so I thought a frock was in order.

As you know, I think a frock is in order on most days.

Remember this beauty? It was £2 from Chesterfield flea market, what a bargain.

What I had forgotten is that although allegedly a maxi, it's not long enough on me. There's about an inch of hem I can let down but that still won't make it ankle-length on me, especially in heels.

So I wore it as it is, I rather like the midi length. The print is gorgeous, and the long sleeves make it warm enough without more layers.

Though a faux fur is always useful on a chilly winter's day.

The kids finished school today, so our morning starts will be a bit later and a bit less frantic for the next couple of weeks.  It's been a really busy time at school - Christmas concerts/plays x 3, parties, discos. All for the kids, no playtime for mummy, something I intend to rectify next week!

Now you know this isn't a cutesy mummy blog. But at the risk of making the LBs hate me for ever, and making all the non-parents out there yawn, I thought I'd show you a glimpse of their Christmas plays.

                                                               Channelling the spirit of Eeyore.

Auditioning for the role of Dopey.

Homage to the perm, Aussie style.

While I have been known to get a little misty-eyed at seeing the kids perform (not just mine, anybody's kid will do), I have to admit I felt more like chuckling this year. Bad Mummy.

Have a superb weekend, you lovely ladies!

You're not a bad mummy at all, Curtise. Chuckling is perfectly normal behaviour, although I personally think that "Eeyore" and "Dopey" look rather cute; Perm Girl - mmmm yes, I see what you mean.

I'm "bad mummy" extraordinaire today. I sneaked out of Year 6's Xmas concert. It was a bit boring if truth be told and the school orchestra's version of Walking in the Air was the straw that broke the camel's back. Oh dear!

The dress, btw, is fab. I do like a good midi. xx

Please can I come for coffee and cake soon? I am with you on the playtime for adults. The false smile is officially in retirement until Easter.
Love the dress, and especially fond of the faux fur. Class.

Have a great weekend.

Yup, I could really do with a coffee and cake morning with likeminded frocked up mothers. I may post a picture of my squished faced little 'Star' having seen your cheery characters. I enjoyed the nativities this year, it was Zac's first - there was a fellow nursery child who was brilliant, I was seriously impressed by this 3 year old girl who had obvious talent despite her tender years. My boy looked quite serious throughout but did attempt all the actions ;-)

Are you actually as tall and willowy as your blog makes you appear, or is it 'trick cameras'? (as I called it when I was small)

that's a lovely dress. I especially liked (and now covet) the faux fur! I think that's what's missing in my life.

That's one gorgeous dress and rockin' fake fur, send 'em my way when you're bored of them!!!
According to my Fashion Alphabet book, a maxi is "any skirt reaching to or below mid-calf usually worn with boots" so it was more than likely designed that way (and it's ideal for not trailing in puddles and snow, always a bonus!)
Great LB pictures, the donkey outfit is one to show his girlfriends when he's about 25.
Hope you get to make up for lost time next week and party like you were born to. xxxx

That frock is GORGEOUS! I love that divine fabric. I had a frock that was a funny length so I added a huge ruffle at the bottom and wore it until it fell apart. Man, I miss that frock...

Your kids are gorgeous. Especially Kath! And your hair is looking particularly fabulous too.

Love! Sarah xxx
