Get Kinky

We Brits are a stoical lot; we may moan endlessly about the weather, but we don't let it stop us doing anything.

Tania and I weren't about to allow the rain to spoil our fun, we had shopping plans for Saturday which included dropping by to see this Kinky pair!

Lovely Vix and Jon, the hardest working vintage sellers around, were in Nottingham for the Fayre on the Square.

Shopping really doesn't need to be a serious business.

The Kinky Melon Retro Boutique rails were full to bursting with colour and print and vintage grooviness; the clothes and the company couldn't fail to put a smile on your face.

Lyndsey and Steve of Boomerang Vintage and Retro had a pitch too.

We shook our heads at the fact that the little green cabinet with the sliding doors was originally one of a pair, but a customer only wanted to buy a single unit. How could anyone bear to split them up?

Poor Tania, I kept insisting on taking her photo whenever she tried anything on...

She even looked beautiful in those 1950s floral Diddyman hats..

which is more than can be said for me in these red leather trousers in Baklash.

Oh we did laugh! Another timely reminder of why I rarely wear trousers, but worth trying for the amusement factor.

Grumpy Lion says step away from the leather pants, just step away...

Tania's gorgeous cape came from Kinky Melon.

After lunch and a browse of some of Nottingham's charity and vintage shops which flew by all too quickly, I headed home to meet the family for dinner at Smoke Barbeque.

We were celebrating Owen's 11th birthday.

The kids were very taken with having their drinks in jam jars.

Sooo... what did I buy in Nottingham?

This fabulous 1970s Berkertex maxi dress was a Kinky purchase...

as was this 1970-80s Wallis cropped faux fur jacket.

I found this 1970s disco-tastic Spinney top in a charity shop.
(Excuse the creases, I haven't washed it yet.)

1970s Berkertex maxi dress - Kinky Melon's Retro Boutique
1980s jacket - vintage shop
Ankle boots - Ebay
Necklace and bangles - charity shopped
Striped bangle - gift from Fiona

Love that scooped back, and the rainbow stripes on the sleeves.

I'll be taking my Kinky frock to join Patti's Visible Monday

Now, it's just possible that a plan was hatched to meet up again very soon...

I wonder where these chazzin' pixies will go next?

I love grumpy lion. He needs to be outside your front door to warn away salespeople! Wonderful pics with you and Vix and Jon, and I adore your short furry jacket. Thanks for sharing with Visible Monday, xoxo.

Great finds! Interesting that the other day I saw a dress here almost identical to the one you're wearing today, same colour and print but sleeveless. Love that grumpy lion and have to confess that I too had a little laugh seeing you in those red leather pants :)

Aha! My three lovely little pixies! I knew there would be something Kinky with your name on it. Bloody fabulous.
Is there nothing Tan can't put on and not looking bleedin' gorgeous in?

Happy Birthday to Owen!!!!
So lovely to see you on Saturday. It does look like you're trying to drag me off and believe me, I was so jealous when you pair swanned off to the pub leaving us to last night's cheese sandwiches and Thermos of Lidl coffee.
That dress looks incredible but Grumpy Lion was right, those red leather trousers were very strange indeed. Why is the crotch so saggy?
Gawd, if us Brits took any notice of the weather we'd never leave the house, would we? It pissed down so much the soles fell off my boots - unless that was the manic dancing to fend off the chill!
Where will those chazzin' pixies visit next?
Love you! xxxxxxxx

I love your new dress. What very stylish ladies you all are. I like the siamese cat ornaments too but not those trousers, they are cut in a very strange way.You have great legs though why would you not wear trousers? Hoping much birthday fun was had by all. Xxxx

More frocks that rock and a day out in good company, what could be better? OK, some sun would be lovely but with your extensive wardrobe you must have clobber to suit all weathers, right? Tania's cape is gorgeous, ditto your stripy maxi...and look the low back shows off your tatt, who'd have known?
In agreement about the trews but unlike Vix I thought the crotch looked a bit.... well, can I say camel's toe?
Smoke Barbeque looks v. hip & happening, Happy 11th Owen! xx

Didn't we have a luverly time the day you came to Nottingham (are you singing along?) Yes, we really did. It was such fun seeing Vix and Jon messing about together, mooching round the shops, trying ALL SORTS on, eating our fill at Wetherspoons, narrowly avoiding getting dragged in to argy bargy, chatting for Engerland and just hanging out. We must do it again very soon! Look at all those pics of me, I'm such a ham! You look absolutely fabulous in that dress (i've spotted a sneaky tattoo!) and that jacket was just so perfect on you. Top scores all round. Can't imagine why you left those red leather slacks behind though!! :) Glad you got back in time to have a lovely birthday tea. Happy Birthday Owen. Xxxxxxx

I love your girly days out - they look like great fun. Your night out looks good too. I bet you were worn out at the end of the day! xxx

Ah, Curtise, delight lies in details -- the stripes on the sleeves put your handsome maxi into the class of bright ideas of a couturier/clever seamstress!

Do wear the cropped faux fur jacket soon! It's so very elegant it deserves a special outing.

Happy Birthday Owen. Ah yes, drinking from jam jars is great fun (though I'm more of a Duralex glass woman myself).

You look great in trousers, but that pair were oddly tailored. I mean, leather trousers are supposed to be so tight they look sprayed-on. Those, look like something a suburban housewife would have worn in 1980 (with an oversized, embellished pullover).

Thank you for your kind words and encouragement at my blog-rough week, good to be reminded I have nice people around.

You always look like you have fun when you go out. Excellent frock you got from Kinky, and I noticed you have a tattoo. Close up please, I am always fascinated by peeps tats. Your kids are gorgeous, take after their mum obviously!!

I love when you post these fun/functional shopping trips with such great buddies ... Nottingham is indeed the center of the vintage universe. I know Vix had that dress especially for you. Fits you like bespoke, and suits you like you designed it for yourself ... beautiful.
Better still with the killer jacket.
Glad everyone enjoyed the barbecue ... a little odd to think of it there, as you can't avoid the stuff here. Nice to see everyone having so much fun!

Lush maxi dress, I especially love those sleeves. Looks like you picked up some lovely things - the faux fur jacket reminds me of one that my friend used to wear in his 1980s hair metal days! He probably would have worn the leather trousers too!

You guys are having so much fun together! And your new dress is awesome and looks great on you. I can't wait to see what you wear with the super cool black top.

Oooo, loving the new Kinky frock, that scooped back and stripe are making me drool! The leopard cropped jacket is rather sublime also!
What a gloriarse day out with the gorgeous Tania! I'm so jealous, but you know that. And you got to touch Vix and Jon as well! Squee! What rain?! It's all sunshine and smiles as I marvel at you lovelies all together!
Happy Birthday to your handsome boy!
Love you! XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

I was all agog over Tania's gorgeous purple cape, but I must admit your dress is an eye-popping find. I love the 1980s vintage jacket, too- has a Steampunk feel!
