We fade to grey

Grey is not a colour I wear very often, despite the number of bloggers I see looking chic and effortless and elegant in this shade.

But in the spirit of never saying never, here I am in black and grey.

It comes to something when the scruffy brick wall at the bottom of the garden is the most colourful thing in the photo...

...apart from my hair!

Still, in keeping with my dire need to have a very thrifty January, it is an extremely cheap outfit.

Tunic dress - 99p, Ebay
Waistcoat - £2.99, I think, charity shop
Leggings - 20p, jumble sale
Boots - can't remember but they were 75% off in an online sale a couple of years ago.

Burlesque headpiece - Christmas gift from my darling friend Patsy
Necklace - £1.50, charity shop
Purple ring - £3.50, stall at school fair
Red ring - ancient, gift
1950s marcasite brooches - feather and circular ones, 50p each, charity shop
Bow brooch - rescued from our childhood dressing up jewellery box
Cut out bangle - Christmas gift from my mate Sal
Engine-turned bangle - £1, charity shop
Souvenir bracelet - bought in a charity shop in Walsall with beach babe Vix, £3.99 I think

That little lot, though by no means pricey, cost more than my clothes!

Even the purple nail varnish was a gift.

Charlie fits the monochrome theme and he was free.

Interestingly, when we went round to have dinner with friends, it was commented on that I was wearing black and grey.

It is unusual for me, and clearly people notice.

Full colour will resume in my next post, I'm sure!
Can't be outshone by the brickwork and the evergreen ground cover...

I don't feel at my most visible, but I'm linking up with Patti and the gals anyhow!

I'm wearing grey today too, and just about to post myself in it. I think with our red hair we can get away with more subdued colors sometimes, but that may just be me cause I rarely wear much color, especially in the cold months.
Your more sassy haircut looks great! Looks like they lifted the back a bit more which looks really cute.
I missed your last post but wanted to say that your body looks OOOH LA LA!! Did you lose weight?
See you at Visible Monday place. ;)

You do gray and black beautifully, and you're right -- the glorious red hair always gives you a splash of color : >

We all need trusty grey once in a while, that stoical little non-colour, with her shadowy cousins black and white. And a Charlie!
You still look gorgeous! Your inside colour is leaking out all over the place.
I love that B&W shot of you with the bright red featherpiece. Cool leggings for 20p? Nods of tremendous admiration.

I don´t think I own any grey clothes, but you do look fabulous, Curtise.

Never say never is one of my favourite adages. I think the grey looks great with your hair and the cat is a wonderfully coordinated accessory! xxx p.s. my boyf has just said you look like Helen Mirren. :)

I never used to like brown or grey, but G wore them so well he turned me! I don't have much grey, just tights and shoes, but I would like a cardi...it goes so well with pink, and yellow...and of course, black! I always get loads of comments if I'm not wearing colour! You look fab, it sets of your hair nicely! And practically free! Free pussy is always grand....
WAH!
Love you! XXXXXXX

Grey is my favourite so I'm completely taken with this ensemble. Black can be a little draining with wintry pallor, but grey is soft and pretty.
I love how there's a story to all your bastard jewellery, and so much of it is a gift. I'm sure that even when you aren't blogging you add up the cost of your outfit (I do) through habit. The most expensive thing is usually my gloves or bra.
I'm sure we can look forward to a riot of colour after this dabble with clothes which match the sky.

Hop the yellow skirt comes your way soon.

Isn't it great though when people expect you to be colourful? Better than them being shocked because you're in colour, I think. You look very chic, and I adore those brooches. You can't beat a bit of marcasite. x

Such a smart look, I'm loving your leggings! If this is austerity season, sign me up. Thanks for your kind comment on my blog, you are such a doll! xoxoxo

I have very little grey also. But I find it mixes good with color.
And heck you make grey look GOOD! I think it's your patterned tights that give the outfit some OOOHHMPF!

Very classy. Love the grey and black.

I have such a mental block about wearing grey - it's a school uniform colour on me, perhaps I need some therapy!

YOU, however, suit it beautifully. I love the waistcoat on you and the fab tights. GORGEOUS!!!

Love! Sarah xxx

Love those tights. New heights for gray and white. Looking good. I wonder why we spell gray/grey differently?

You suit grey perfectly and you've pulled it off to perfection. I love the waistcoat and the boots especially. I think you would look great in anything as you have such a hot bod! Grey is not a colour I've ever been able to pull off but you've inspired me to try it. Hope things are well with you? xxx

I'd have to say grey is my third favourite colour, after green & orange. I wear grey with just about everything....I find it's versatile & as long as it's the right shade it doesn't wash me out. The outfit looks fab, & THOSE legs look amazing as usual! I certainly enjoyed a peek at your jewellery too. Xx

The outfit looks fabulous because of your sexy shape - and nothing to detract from that! The leggings are great, and it's a very cool outfit. I can't believe you bought something on eBay for 99p! Their commission was probably 5 pounds!

You look great in every color that I've seen you in, and grey is fabulous on you too. How wonderful to have such versatility and experiment with something new!

And the lurex disco top with long black skirt in your last post has me celebrating the arrival of 2013 all over again!

I think the black and grey is kind of funky on you! I really love the waistcoat - I've never been a waistcoat kind of girl but I keep seeing lovely bloggers wearing them and looking fabulous!

I have embraced gray grey and I love it more than black. You look anything but dull in this outfit, lots of interest in those leggings and all your jewelry. I am loving those little capped sleeves and Charlie is your best accessory next to that lil smirk you wear so well.
XOXOXOXO

You look great! Your accessories - especially those lovely leggings - make it a good outfit. I like the colours best though...

I really like this monochrome look, though I can imagine you'll want to get back to colour fairly quickly - maybe grey and black with some super bright accessories? Anyway, you look wonderful and the whole outfit was a complete bargain- those amazing leggings for 20 English pence? Amazing. xxxxx

I'm wearing grey today too with jade green - YUM! I like the way your hair looks so bright with your neutrals. Wishing you a happy (and colourful) 2013! Vicky x

You're hardly blending in with the background in those leggings Curtise!
Plus all the accessorizing gives the outfit extra interest, love your rings btw and the marcasite brooches. This must be the most bargainous ensemble on your blog? Charlie compliments your look so well, bless him.

Damn, Curtise, you get lovelier in every post. Spill your beauty secrets, other than being naturally tall and gorgeous.

joyatri said...

I guess it's good to shake things up a bit and wearing something that you don't normally wear. Just the other day I tried Joni's shorts and tights with boots look. Not something I'd usually do, but it was fun for a change. Heck your natural beauty means that you'll always be visible no matter what color you wear.

CityScape Skybaby said...

You still stand out from the crowd even in grey Curtise, because you wear it with such a stylish twist. I'm the opposite of you, I'm drawn to dark colours and I really need to brighten myself up a bit with more colour. Those leggings were a real bargain and I love the waistcoat too. xx

Well I think that your outfit looks fabulous. I especially love the cat accessory.

Love that black skirt with those amazing leggings. Your jewelry is awesome as usual. I can't believe the amazing prices for these wonderful items of clothing. Such great finds!

Patti said...

And thanks for linking up the fabulous-ness to Visible Monday!

I just LOVE (!!!) your patterned tights, short skirt and boots. You wear it so easily. Serious envy here, because we squat girls sometimes wear this look but probably shouldn't.
Looking forward to your adventures in the coming year!

As a huge fan of black and gray, I love this, especially with the marcasite jewels. But then again, historically I've been a colorphobe. Your hair does look glorious, too. I've been teetering on the brink of coloring mine again...you are tipping the scales in the moment. We'll see...:-) Love you!!!!!

Fab outfit that looks great on you. I love your jewelry, perfect accessories, especially the marcasite.
The kitty makes a nice addition as well. Very sweet kitty.

I don't think I have any grey but it is a colour I like, especially with pink, even though that does scream eighties to me!

I quite like this colour combination on you - especially with those gorgeous tights! :)
