A funky and lowdown feeling

                                                                                Kids.
Love 'em. But they don't half mess with your schedule.

I had all sorts of things organised this week, but one by one, the kids have succumbed to a 24 hour sickness virus, and had to be off school. Which curtails my activities too, of course. It's a good thing I didn't take that job, I'd be sacked for being so unreliable. Oh well, they are all better and will all back at school tomorrow, hurray!

So when one is confined to quarters, what else is there to do but dress up in homage to Soul Train from the early 1970s. Thank God for Youtube!

I found this C&A Clockhouse suede patchwork/faux fur jacket on Ebay. Judging by the label and condition, it must be a 1990s version of a 1970s style, but no matter, I love it!

I have a confession. Judge not, Vintage Sisters.

This jumpsuit is from Primark. There, I've said it. Not that I bought it from there, obviously I found it in a charity shop, but given that I moan on about crappy fast fashion being offloaded on charity shops and filling their rails with poorly-made mediocrity, I now feel a little hypocritical.

But I feel fabulous in it, so there. It makes me want to wear hats and get my groove on.

Step 'n' move your hips with a feelin' from side to side...

Clockhouse jacket and leopard print hat (Ebay), 1970s green felt hat and pendant (flea market), jumpsuit, belt, bangles, hoop earrings, shoe boots and scarf (charity shops)

I defy anyone not to move their hips to this. Sing it, Aretha. What it is, what it is.

Glad the kids are better and you haven't succumbed - my all time LEAST favourite part of parenting. However you do indeed look SICK (in the yoof parlance) - at least you're not filling the pockets of Primark! Can you believe they wouldn't take small change in the Croydon one - claimed they don't accept 1ps and 2ps! (Dislaimer: I was only buying tights, honest guv)

Oh YES! I would never usually forgive a Primark purchase, but I'll make an exception here.

What a jacket, it was made for that jupsuit.

Just finished a major comment-reply session, off to bed with a great tune and image in my head - cheers luv!

Can I join you and be your whore in your pimptastic outfit?
All you need is a low rider car.
Primark can have some nice outfits sometimes. You never know.

I would like to see you climbing into a white stretch limo with steer horns on the front and a disco ball inside, wearing this groovy outfit! I was weaned on Motown and Soul Train and like your musical accompaniment. I'm glad I don't know what a (ssshhh, primark) is. It sounds like the the name of that nasty virus - a nasty case of (ssshhh, primark!). You look ready to boogie anyway, and those palazzo pants make your legs look a mile long! Gorgeous, gorgeous!

Oh my! You ARE a kindred spirit! I OVE Soul Train!!! I finally got to be in a ST dance line at my sister's 30 year class reunion last year! I'm LOVING that jumpsuit on you!! Hugs! ~Serene

No need to apologize for THRIFTED fast fashion! I want to see videos of you dancing Soul Train style. I've been hearing Donna Summer's "Last Dance" in my head all day...and wondering if I have the pieces to put together a disco look.

Ooh, Rock Steady! YES! THIS makes me so happy! :D I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE that suede patchwork jacket! I must've been feelin' your groovy patchwork energy when I ordered my kimono yesterday! :D

You look so fierce. I hear ya about the whole crappy fast fashion in the thrift shops--I was totally going on about this to my mom yesterday--but let me tell you, this jumpsuit is GLORIOUS. And if it makes ya feel good that's all that matters, I say. :D I just love it..and the flutter sleeves are divine. Jumpsuits bring me such joy.

Thank you for your kind words over on my post. They always mean so much. I look so forward to coming here each day..relaxing and reading about my friends! :) XOXO

PS - Glad the kids are all better!

HOLY BEJAYZUS WOMAN!!! You are the jumpsuit queen - I don't care what brand it is (don't even know what Primark is!) all I care about is how GOOOOOD you look in it! The hat and jacket are fabulous (you have a head for hats, as my Gran used to say) but the jumpsuit seals the deal for me. AMAAAZINGGG! Hope all of your little people are doing better.

I love it - I do thing you can pick up some great modern things from charity shops, though I, like you mostly avoid primark, though once in a while you'll spot a gem like that jumpsuit. The neck is fabulous, really flattering! The whole look really suits you
Hope you're feeling better!

You are single handedly making me crave disco outfits! Gorgeous in the jumpsuit, but let me just add that that shape of hats suits you!

The Style Crone said...

I remember disco outfits like they were yesterday! You made great use of your confinement! You look fabulous in the jumpsuit with hat (love that you wore two hats) and the jacket adds great color to your 70's mix.

Love the jumpsuit, but the jacket, ahhhhh the jacket I adore...
I also have a bug in Berlín, slowly recovering.

You poor love, rather you than me, I'm the world's worse nurse and would be as grumpy as hell having to deal with all that sickness. Hope they're on the mend now!
that outfit is fricking glorious. I adore that C&A 1990s-does-the-1970s, I would have snapped that up if I'd spotted it on the 'bay, too!
Primarni from a charity shop is totally allowed especially when it looks as good as that jumpsuit does on you. We should organise a blogger's disco in memory of Donna Summer and we could all wear our disco gear and throw a few shapes, what a laugh that would be!
Disco-tastic love to you. xxxxxx

I love this post so so much!! I made my 13 yr old son sit down with me and watch tons of soul train episodes on demand recently. He was jumping up and dancing with me. haha
I'm in total lust over that jacket!!!!

Best song ever. Don't sell the black and white cape dress it is amazing on you. If it was in my size then you could sell it.

karensomethingorother said...

Nope. It won't do. You look too awesome in that jumpsuit. You'll have to get rid of it.
Ha, I kid. It looks sooo good though..and chic! Hope the kids are all better soon. I know those days of me running around unwashed all day and really yucky, as I exhaust myself tending to the ill.

Buying Primani is totally acceptable when it makes you look shit hot like this! And look how versatile it is, so many looks from one garment!
Have a 'fabularsehole' weekend. x

What a fabulous coat! Love it. The lurgee has been circulating around our house too. It sucks big time :( xx

You go girl! Love it!

I too have bought the occasional fast-fashion piece in the charity shop (indeed in my town, the charity shops seem to have little else) ... I don't quite get that thrill I do when I buy vintage and sometimes I feel guilty, but I say to myself that at the very least, it made it to the charity shop instead of being chucked in the bin.

Hope the kiddies are better soon. :)

That is a nice outfit sister!

The jacket is something else!

Awwwwww! Kids i remember those days and they still call me when they are sick

Tried to comment yesterday but blogger wasn't playing! Kids do have a habit of mucking up schedules - I'm late for nearly everything if BB is coming with me! Hope the LBs are feeling better by now. The jumpsuit may be from Primark, but it looks great on you. I have a top and a bag from there via the charity shop, so you're not alone! Did the fair go well today? Looking forward to your report x

I love your selection for such a day! I hope you are able to take that jacket for a walk soon, along with the rest of the ensemble. I would wear it all in a heartbeat, although I don't do well in jumpsuits; I have an embarrassing story about being in a jumpsuit and having to make a dash for the bathroom. Not a happy ending. Haven't worn one since!

Totally rocking the 70s look - your legs look like they go on forever in the jumpsuit! Fabulous :o) Scarlett x

Oh my lovely Curtise, whatever you wear always makes me so happy and this awesome jumpsuit (I don't care where it came from but how great that it's from a chazza!) does't fail. It ticks all the boxes - swishy, sexacious and oh so saucy! The jacket is awesome baby and you are THE hat and scarf queen I tell you! Let's get some Soul Train action going! Glad to hear the kids are on the mend, I hope you manage to sidestep the horrid bug xxxxxxx

Oh my goodness, that jacket is a revelation. Glorious. And I had to laugh at your fast-fashion thrift find, because I just did the same thing! I found SUCH a cute little summer top, great fit, very versatile, nice fabric, at my favorite consignment store. So I just pretended I didn't know that "Merona" is the Target store brand.
