Lovley, buttiful

Christmas has come and gone, and I have had a small unscheduled break from blogging; no significant reasons, just Christmas and work and a cold and feeling a bit too busy for my liking.

Christmas itself was fairly relaxed, all food and presents eagerly and gratefully enjoyed.

A day in bed with paracetamol and a good book helped with the cold.

Work is nearly done (just one more shift to go). Remind me again why anyone wants to go shopping on Boxing Day? Plenty do, apparently, but it mystifies the bejeezus out of me...

And 2013 is nearly over - where did it go?

Favourite pressie?

Well, it doesn't really do to have favourites, but I was very taken with this 1960s Brettles nightdress and peignoir set from my friend Tracey. She know me so well!

Tonight we are going round to see the new year in with our friends Claire and Ron, and whoever else pitches up. If I make it to midnight awake, it'll be the year's first miracle..

However, we are taking the karaoke machine, so that might keep me going. Any requests?  (Who said Shaddup your face?)

1970s C&A maxi dress and bracelets- charity shop
1960s faux fur cape /jacket - gift
1970s hat - flea market
Boots - community fair

Here's Eldest, wearing her 1960s vinyl Baker boy cap, looking as though she should be a character in A Taste of Honey or Up the Junction.

Little sisters always ruin the shot...

...but he ain't heavy.

We were off to see The Hobbit at the Imax, it was great.

Did everyone have a good Christmas? I hope so, and I'll be catching up with all your festive/end of year action very soon.

Hmm, wonder what 2014 has in store?

I daresay I will be buttiful, continue to bellow, and be a godess.

It's hard to tell with Littlest's atrocious spelling whether she meant goddess or godless. Either works.

Edit: linking to Judith's Hat Attack, the first of 2014!

See you next year!

glad you're feeling better!, having a cold in the middle of xmas rush is really disgusting!
and such a cute littlest's note, spelling is important, but having fun is The Most Important!
So I wish you a Fabulous New Year and Lots of Fun!

You look quite Doris Day virginal in your peignoire. And Eldest! Wow! When I was a little, my sister and I used to pretend that we were Carnaby Street Dollies. We'd make feeble attempts at an English accent and wear gogo boots and pretend we were riding in a bus (our town was so small that there were no buses) I imagine that we looked just like Eldest. Jane Asher! Happy New Year to You and Your Fabulous Bunch.

Jon's just walked past and giggled at youngest's lovely tribute, you buttiful, bellowing godess! Brilliant. That's why I love you, too.
Gorgeous C & A maxi and stunning peignoir, Tracey's got splendid taste! How cool is eldest's cap? I'll have that when she's finished it it, ta!
Have a brilliant NYE and a bostin' start to 2014. I'm having a tiny drop of rum and finishing Morrissey off in bed.
Love you! xxxxxxxxxx

It's nice to take a break from blogging, I generally do at this time of the year. I have had much the same feelings as you and have just wanted to enjoy the extra time.

Lovely nightdress what a sweet Christmas gift. I received no vintage gifts but gave several which was lovely and well received.

May your 2014 be a most wonderful. X

Aww your little girls verse to you is sooo sweet! Merry (belated) Christmas and Happy New Year to you too lovely! On an unscheduled blogging break myself but sometimes needs must. Catch you in 2014 x

A blogging break is lovely to take, isn't it (not that I didn't miss you, b/c I did!) That's a lovely peignoir (did I spell that right?) and a precious note from Littlest. Happy New Year, dear Curtise and all the best in 2014. xoxo

The notes from littlest are always good for a big ole smile. Hi Curtise! I've missed you but I've heard from Vix how busy these last few have been, take time off when you need it, I promise we will still be here.

I adore eldest new old cap she looks so sweet and that fact that she is strong carrying her lil bro, makes her nice and well rounded:).

Your new nightie is too cute for just the bedroom and I adore the hat you have on and this maxi! I'm glad you had a nice Xmas and I'm wishing you and the family the best that 2014 has to offer. You are a joy Curtise I'm glad to have you in my life!
Lots of love baby!

Hello Goddess, the bellowing type are my particular favourites especially when dressed country style regal fabulousness! I had to look up what a peignoir set was (you would think the visual prompt would have helped me!)Eldest is looking cool in her Baker Boy and the pics of them all are fab (whoever is the moody bugger of the day ruins our pics hehe!)Stay buttiful and have a great night! and have a very Happy New Year and an awesome 2014 x x x

You are a buttiful, bellowing (I'm hoping) goddess (godless goddess) and I hope you have a wonderful new year!

Beautiful and bellowing and a goddess to boot - it's a lovely poem and who wouldn't want to be all three? I love eldest's cap - very jaunty. I have never understood Boxing Day (or Black Friday, in the USA) madness (maybe because it is just that: mad). I don't even like shopping in "regular" (ie: non-thrift) shops before Christmas. Too many pushing people desperate for the next big deal. Happy New Year to you and yours, Curtise! Xoxo

Have barely been near a non-food shop since early December, tried to go food shopping earlier and we couldn't even get into the car park! Happy new year, you goddess!

I have in the past thought that Eldest sometimes resembles Gillian Hills or Jane Birkin (or their littler sister, at least) -- the hat only reinforces this notion.

And of course you *are* a lovley buttiful bellowing godless godess.

Oh Littlest, you're a wordsmith (and you don't even know it! I'm remembering that post where you wrote about the bloke she said was in lust with you here!)

I love your maxi, big girl's cap and both those novels (have you read The L-Shaped Room by any chance? It was one of my faves when I was a teenager)

Happy New Year, Curtise. Your floral maxi is a refreshing reminder of springtime in this dreary winter weather.
As you know, I'm a big fan of any film with Rita Tushingham and A Taste of Honey is one of my faves. Eldest does indeed look like she stepped out of some bleak Northern "kitchen-sink" drama. Love the cap.
Glad you're feeling better and only have one shift of work left.
Saw your comment and am sending my London address shortly.

Happy new year Curtise! I hope you managed to see the new year in in style. Heck, if I managed to stay awake despite a double bill of Mr Beans Holiday and Hot Fuzz, anyone could! xxxx

I've taking a bit of a break myself and it's been rather enjoyable. I don't understand why people feel the need to rush out the day after Christmas and spend even more money after they have just spent tons of it before Christmas. I haven't purchased anything except movie tickets and food. I hope your last shift goes well.

I seem to have acquired a cold too, and just before I have to go back to work - excellent timing.

I love eldest's cap - I have one very similar! Littlest really does have you pegged, doesn't she - god(dess, less), bellowing, organizing, and buttiful! A marvelous tribute, out of the mouths of babes.

Happy New Year, darling! Here's to a healthy, happy, and frock-filled 2014.

Hope you had a wonderful New Years celebration (my karaoke fave is always Bohemian Rhapsody!). Love your letter from Littlest - just adorable! XXX

Luscious in lemon..... that's you! Can quite see why the peignoir is a fave gift and hope Simon is suitably appreciative. Eldest's baker boy cap is fab and so is her luxuriant hair, lucky thing.
Like you I think anyone who hits the shops on Boxing Day is barking. Hope you managed to stay awake to herald in 2014. Happy New Year lovely.xxxx

Hello my friend! Missing you! Hope your 2014 is off to a fantastic start. You're looking sweetly divine and your kids have sure grown. I'm still wearing and loving the animal print sweater dress you sent!

Tried to comment earlier...oh well!! I think spelling is like a vestigial organ, unfortunately. I hope it's not as bad in the UK, but here it's endemic. Drives me crazy. You look gorgeous, BTW. Looking forward to enjoying eachother's company in the New Year. XXOO

Awwwwww. AWWWWWWWW. Littlest's note just rocked my world, as I know it did yours. Awwwww.
You look pretty good for a sick lady. Wish you a return to health very soon! Hope you had a lovely New Year's Eve. Even if there was Karaoke.
Eldest ... I told you she looks like a 60s movie ingenue! Watch out, you guys.
Now that you're done with Debenhams, I can't wait to read the tell-all. You are going to write a tell-all, yes?
Happy New Year, our Curtise ... to all of you, two and four legged both. Looking forward to more in 2014!

I avoid malls and shopping like the Dickens the entire month of December, so sometimes I pop out for a quick look at the deals after Christmastime.

I think your hat is so fetching. The cape is the perfect touch to your dress, which looks like you could wander the Swiss Alps. :D

I'm very taken with how the lovely 70's hat frames your face with perfection and the faux fur coat adds a touch of glamour to your creative ensemble. Thank you for sharing with Hat Attack!

Headwear with the negligee is a delightful bonus. As is Eldest in her snappy vinyl Baker boy cap!

Mystifies me too Curtise. The only shopping that is acceptable between Christmas and new year is for food and then maybe a spot of chazzing in early Jan - have just bought a Ghost evening gown for £2.25 in Help the Aged whoopee! (I've got nowhere to wear an evening gown but if I have one I feel one step closer to being invited to the ball and in the meantime I can wear it round the house!) Glad you survived Debenhams and had a good Christmas. I love the alluring nightwear gift and Littlest's tribute to you. Wishing you a happy new year, Vicky x

You look lovely and serene, as well as buttiful and lovley, but it's Eldest's hat that has captured my heart! And I think it's pretty funny that the word spelled correctly in Littlest's note is bellowing.

I was just over your way for a last-minute trip. Travelling over the holidays wasn't exactly fun, but at least we had decent weather where we were. And it looks like you did, too.

Happy New Year, Curtise!

O, my gorgeous one, how bloody SUCK to have a cold during the silly season. I'm SURE kareoke perked you right on up!
Bellowing?! I see. How bloody hilarious!!! And yes, either Goddess OR Godless work perfectly.
O, yeah, the Boxing Day fiasco...every year I think MAYBE...and every year I then think FECK THAT SHITE. I hate crowds. Ugh!
Great nightie, very Sandy in Grease! Great frockage too, very Green Knowle. You're rather inspirational today!
Eldest's hat ROCKS!
As do you!
Loving you ever more, HAPPIEST OF NEW YEARS!
