Friday on my mind

It's Friday; how did that happen so quickly?

Not that I am complaining, Friday night is family dinner out or takeaway night, so we all look forward to that. None more so than me, I get sooooo tired of the relentless treadmill of cooking.

I wish I liked it more, or felt more inspired...

As it is, the thought of a curry and a beer later is perking me up no end!

I had my hair cut this week.

I do so love the banishment of the grey roots and the swingy feel of a good haircut!

The shorter fringe and more precise bob, accompanied by the chevron skirt, and my new-to-me Art Deco-esque shoes and necklace, give a rather 1930s look.

Top, 1970s midi skirt, fishnet tights, bangles and shoes - charity shopped
Belt and necklace - retail (sale)
Vintage sunglasses - Ebay

So gorgeous!
(Sources here, here and here.)

Green shoes, £3.50.
Cherry blossom in my garden, priceless.

Sticking with the black and white theme, this was me yesterday.

I feel a bit like Madonna in the video for True Blue when I wear a 50s-style dress over leggings, but I went with it.

I forgot my chiffon scarf, most remiss of me.

I pottered around Chesterfield flea market as usual, just because it's there and I can, and came home with a few bits and bobs for a whopping £3 spend!

Return to the Pool, a Vernon Ward print - 50p
1950s glass jug - 50p
Two 1960-70s stainless steel rings - £1 each

Charlie's tail just made it into shot there.

He is in disgrace. He is a killing machine, we have had a steady supply of dead rats, birds and squirrels lately.

I bought a collar with a bell for him, but couldn't bear to watch his abject misery and distress as he tried desperately to get it off, so I gave in and removed it myself.

The bloodshed will doubtless continue, and there will be other shouts of "Muuuum! Charlie's got a squirrel and he's eating its head!" from my appalled-yet-fascinated kids.

I can't keep an eye on him all the time, I've got things to do!

Like making another reversible tote bag.

Fabric (1960s curtains and remnant) from the flea market and a charity shop.

1980s-does-50s dress - Ebay
Shoes and bangles - charity shopped
Red floral bangle - gift from darling Tania
Necklace - gift
Leggings - jumble sale

Whatever you are doing this Friday, do it in fine style, ladies!

The first outfit is my favourite - love the chevron skirt, so elegant!
I too love the feeling of a new haircut, I know exactly what you mean - plus we can never straighten hair as well at home as they do in the salon isn't it?
Huggles and I hope you have a nice weekend!

Oh Curtise I too get so tired of cooking everyday and so enjoy a night off. Enjoy yours!!!! I do love a nice chevron print and this skirt looks so good on you! I also love the dress over the leggings, but you probably already new that. Your kitty is a killing machine and mine is trying to get herself killed, cats I will never understand them, just love them.
Enjoy your weekend doll!

Oh Curtise, I love your refreshed hair and that chevron striped skirt, I've been after one ever since Helga had a picture of a girl wearing one in her side bar!
Those Stainless Steel rings make me weak at the knees and I can't resist a cheap Vernon Ward print in a white frame. Chesterfield market gets more appealing by the week.
That second dress is a beaut, I have True Blue on 12" vinyl and used to play it on repeat - I don't remember the vid!
Charlie's a little bugger - squirrels? Don't tell Vanessa!
I should send Jon up your way, I can't remember the last time i was allowed near the kitchen!
Have a fabularse weekend, darling! xxxxxxxx

Your hair looks lovely! I go on strike every weekend as far as cooking goes! Sometimes that includes fridays and mondays depending on my mood. My husband must cook or starve to death. I resent having to cook all the time. I work bloody hard too. Fannying around with a paintbrush all day can be emotionally draining and my blog doesn't write itself! ;)

MMmm, I'd probably be appalled yet fascinated as well. There's soooo much in this post to love (as always). The chevron skirt is my favourite and the Vernon Ward print for 50P??? Jealous. Hoorah for Friday. Nearly finished some half-hearted cleaning (got distracted by your post) and looking forward to downing the first glass of vino of the weekend. xx

Oooh I like the new haircut, very sleek and gorgeous. 2 great outfits, but as I'm a fan of the 30s myself I particularly love that Art Deco monochrome number, it suits you so well Curtise! And those amazing shoes, for a few quid! You're the queen of the charity shop, such an incredible find!

Both outfits are just marvy! Dress over leggings, yes!!! Enjoy the night off cooking - I am terribly spoiled that Beary does so much of that for us - and hope the backyard bloodshed eases! xoxoxo

Great minds think alike. I keep a lot of upbeat stuff on my iPod to keep me distracted as I make my rounds through the endless waiting rooms in doctors offices that have become my life AND just yesterday I loaded Friday on my mind onto the iPod! I laughed when I saw your post! There is just nothing like a great new haircut. Am I right? You are bobilicious. Great inspiration. As sad as it is, aren't you just a wee bit proud of your strong fierce kitty?

Another two great outfits Curtise, is the lollipop lady still commenting? Fab jug find for 50p!!!
Naughty Charlie, luckily for me Prudy can't be arsed to kill anything now, although she still wears a bell to stop me tripping over her. Your reversible tote is very impressive, love the purple floral fabric. I had some bedroom curtains just like it in the 70's.
Enjoy the weekend.xxxxxxxxxx

Oh yes, if I had to do it every night, I'd be fed up of it too. Cooking.

I love your chevron skirt, you look fantastic in it.
My elder sis had one and it reminded me of a Bridget Riley painting. I spent years coveting it. Your new Louise Brooks bob is fabulous, bet it feels lovely and swingy as you walk.

Vernon Ward for 50p? I'm speechless. I love your Madonna tribute, nothing wrong with that at all. She was great in her heyday. I spy with my little eye, red lipstick. Suits you!

Charlie, oh dear, that isn't fun. Hey, hey, hey, you're on a roll with those tote bags! :) xxxx

I love your cat - he is very similar in markings to one of mine. The eating of heads of trophies made me smile, as only this morning we found a dead mouse, carefully laid out under the washing line, only softly chewed around the neck. I love your outfits in this post - those art deco shoes are just gorgeous and will go with so many different things. I like the leggings and the dress outfit too. Love the hair cut.

God, I love those shoes and tights in the first outfit! And then the dress over leggings - I'm really loving that style myself right now. You look just so graceful and stunning as usual!

Our Friday nights in Crewe used to consist of stopping for Chinese on the way home from our office, popping into Bargain Booze next door while we waited for our food and getting beer, wine, and a huge Cadbury's bar, then sitting in front of the TV watching Friends, Frasier, Father Ted (!), and Eurotrash. Bliss!

I have pangs for your super-stylish shoes! Rather in favour of murderous cats, can live with a few less birds for no mice/rats, brrrrrrr! Enjoy your take out and happy weekend ms's xxx

The green shoes! I love them, I want some! And I love both these outfits on you Curtise, I loved Madonna in the True Blue vid so looking like her in it is alright by me. And you've been sewing fab bags, reversible ones at that, and putting me to shame as I've still done bugger all. My Friday nights are a lot like yours and I breathe a big sigh of relief when they come round. I'm not a great cook and trying to find something to suit everyone does my head in. Last night I had a few vodka and cokes and listened to Morrissey and the Smiths with Pat and my daughter, then we got a takeaway and Pat fell asleep on the settee until I ordered him to bed, which sounds much saucier than it really was. Have a great weekend Curtise! xx

Squirrels!!!!!! Vix is right.....Charlie you little bugger!!!!!
But he is very cute....lucky!!!!

Curtise you look so pretty with your "Louise Brooks" hair cut....the blunt fringe is fab.
Now that skirt is very cool and I love the great necklace with it....you are very stylish....always.
Enjoy takeaway night....fish n chips with blue cod fish is always a favorite.
Have a lovely weekend sweet.

Charlie is in charge, clearly. I do love that cool cat.
Speaking of cool cats, you are a dream in your '30s outfit with your new hair, especially with those new shoes! I agree about the rejuvenating power of a good hair cut and a weekly dining-out ritual.
Fantastic job on the multiaction tote!
And your last outfit is smashing with those leggings and shoes. You're on a roll, baby.

Indigo Violet said...

I hate cooking and have too many takeaways, though usually semi-healthy ones.
Stripes are good, chevrons even better.
And the Vernon Ward - I haven't seen one under $40 here! People are wising up.
Love that red pendant too.

Vintage Bird Girl said...

Firstly I love your new doo. Looks so stylish! Loving the chevron stripes too, & those shoes are gorgeous! You know I'm a bit partial to a good ring as well...you must show us your jewellery collection some time! Xx

Curtise, I am in love with everything from this post: your chic new bob; the outfit in pic no. 1 and especially those green shoes!; the stainless steel rings (and the price!); AND especially the footless leggings with the dress! I channelled memories of the early '80s and Danskin the other day when I wore a long pair of leggings tucked into my ballet flats (the way us dancers used to) - quelle fashion flashback. Your reversible tote is lovely and so spring-like! Xoxo

My commenting got interrupted last night but here I am. I love your hair! It looks bloody gorgeous. I definitely prefer you to Madonna, the outfits and the car are the only good things in that video. We had a killer Black and White cat too, so I know how horrendous it is when they kill everything in sight. Love Charlie's tail just peeking in the corner of the photo! The steel rings are brilliant! Gorgeous shoes for £3.50! Really love those chevrons on your skirt! The lady in the long dress is beautiful!Have a great weekend! xxxxx

I love both outfits but the second one has it for remindiing me of Madonna's True Blue Days.
Must dig out my old CD and forget I am not 17 again.

That chevron skirt is a show-stopper. And it makes you look like quite the vamp with those textured tights and green shoes. As you know, I saw a Louise Brooks film last weekend and just watched another one on DVD last night. She was a style icon ahead of her time.
Great stainless rings!
Clever you making a REVERSIBLE tote.

Lucky that there are cheese and yogurt! Yoghurt is not suited so well to wine though ... Anyway. Black and white suit you just as well as bright colors. The skirt is perfect! Charlie seem to be a nice friend.

Your hair looks lovely! I thought of Louise Brooks when I saw you in the reader... I do like getting a haircut (and new colour too), am due one next week.

Both outfits are winners - the chevrons are particularly great though. I like the leggings with dress look and may have to steal that.

I really don't enjoy cooking, and also ate out on Friday! xx

Miss Magpie said...

LOVE the hair!, and the green shoes they are fab.

Stick with the collar, our cat who was also a veritable killing machine used to go nuts when you put a collar on but after a few hours/days got used to it which made the poor wee birdies very happy.

that 30's vibe outfit is fabulous, love that black&white skirt and your pretty shoes!
and so lovely floral dress with leggings (I can't avoid it, I like leggings&dresses!!)
wish you luck fighting against your kitty's killer instincts!!

I usually get takeout for dinner on Friday too - after a week of working, I feel like I deserve it! So much to like here: the Chevron skirt with those adorable shoes, fresh haircut and colour, that pretty print dress and little ankle strap flats! Charlie is just being true to his nature - must be something about Spring with all the little critters up and about that inspires his hunting instinct!

It's ok you don't know anything about comic books - I still think you're fab!

Camelia Crinoline said...

I love cooking but I guess it must be a chore if you don't enjoy it. I can't believe your cat kills squirrels. I would've thought they were a bit big got a cat to get. I love the chevron skirt. You do look like a fabulous deco dame. Your hair looks great. There's nothing better than freshly dyed hair.

Diane said...

Love the haircut, and your colour. You need to edge into the 1920's being as Gatsby is about to hit! I have neighbours cats in my garden patrolling for baby birds! I am at war with one of them! xxxx

Your hair looks fabulous Curtise and those shoes are just beautiful. Love The Easybeats!

The 30's is one of my favorite eras, so your first outfit is totally divine. Your new hair cut fits perfectly with your sophisticated look. And I think I'm going to try the 50's dress with leggings idea. If only I had that great brick background!

Megan said...

Great skirt. I'm quite a fan of stripes, chevrons, etc. etc.

I'm getting my hair done for the first time in 6 weeks on Wednesday. I can't hardly wait!

Sarah and Helga here - we LOVE the chevron skirt and THE HAIRCUT!! The frock is gorgeous too - love the red and the leggings and I would never have thought of that Madonna video... and I may never forgive you for reminding me of that STUPID SONG.

The lovely rings are a gorgeous bargain and the jug is so pretty.

Come over - we want to play with you!

Love you more than cheese!
