I do love wearing red.
It's an instant pick-me-up, and you certainly don't fade into the background wearing a bright pillar-box red vintage coat.
So I had better get myself over (belatedly) to Patti's for Visible Monday, and the reappearance of my sequin beret means I can join Judith for this month's Hat Attack. These are the only link-ups I do, so I hate to miss them!
I can't tell you how much I love this 1960s Jaeger coat; the shape, the fit, the buttons, the colour, the quality of the wool fabric, everything about it says quality.
(The little micro-mosaic brooch is another charity shop find, the simple hook fastening would suggest it's quite old.)
I had a look on the Jaeger website; their cheapest wool coats cost £299...
and although this one is smart, I prefer mine. Since it came from a charity shop, it was considerably less expensive - just a tenner.

It seemed fitting to wear my red coat to last night's performance of Little Red Riding Hood, the school pantomime. Claudia and Owen were in the cast, as were various of their friends. The audience booed and hissed the baddie, shouted behind you! when required, and clapped and cheered with gusto at the end. We know the drill.
I'm working both days this weekend as there is another local farmers' market on Sunday. I don't mind, the atmosphere is friendly and relaxed, and it's a good opportunity to make a bit more money for the hospice.
As for when my new shop will open... Well, your guess is as good as mine, but the manager should be recruited before Christmas, so hopefully we will be looking at an opening date in January. I'll keep you posted.
I'll be getting round to commenting on your blogs soon, I promise; hope you're all OK!

Ooh, fab coat! I got all excited spotting a Jaeger coat in a charity shop the other day, but when I looked closer it was far too big for me, pity.
That skirt's a lovely shade of green -- you match the ivy :)
Woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, that is seriously nice!!!! I love a red coat and the brooch is adorable too! In fact, this is probably my favourite outfit of yours in a long time and I love everything you wear!!!
I have two vintage Jaeger coats (one from a chazzer and one from a friend ) and I adore them both- SUCH quality!x
That coat is terrific. That's what we used to call a car coat when I was a kid in the 60's. And to pair it with a beret and plaid skirt and a cardie, I do believe you're channeling one of my infamous groovy teenaged baby sitters.
Love your whole ensemble-particularly the coat. I've had two red coats-on I wore for about 15 years until it literally was disintegrating. i wore a brown, red and black wool plaid wrap skirt. It was one of my favorites, but ouch, I need to get back to the stomach crunches, and veggie eating as it was a bit tight and by days end, ready for pj bottoms.
Just saying...should you ever tire of that amazing coat...I will gladly take it off your hands. Wow! It is gorgeous. You can tell from the photos it is high quality. The cut is so chic. One of the most flattering coats I've ever seen. I love that the buttons end at the belly button and the pockets are so sleek. It fits you perfectly! Yes...I'm drooling all over my keyboard now.
I had to laugh when you wrote that you would have loved that little vintage shop where I bought my midi. I didn't mind it so much since my husband knew where I was as he had gone to wait for me in the car. LOL
I want to come and be your manager. It might be a bit of a commute for me though.
bisous

Great red coat! I think everyone should have a red coat. And I love that plaid skirt too. :)
I ruined my thrifted Jaeger sweater (got some spots on it when I washed it), so I'm in deep, deep envy over this lovely red coat! So gorgeous, and yes, I always feel wonderful when I wear red.
I really like the green plaid ensemble as well - so perfectly festive, but not crass, you know? Love the sequined beret.
I LOVE that you hollered at the school play. Hee!
Such a lovely swing to the coat.
Your sparkly beret is also wonderful. And that little mosaic brooch is adorable!

Gorgeous red coat you have there, and I do like the micro mosaic brooch, I had a thing for micro mosaic things for a while so have a few spectacular little brooches myself. Well done to your kids!!
Beautiful coat! Red is my favourite colour, hands down, I'm always drawn to it. You look fabulous xx
You're building up a fine collection of Jaeger coats, love! That one's a beauty, the buttons are fabulous.
Jon bought a modern one from a jumble sale for 50p last year, when he checked their website it was still retailing at £695. Madness!
Good to see the sequined beret making an appearance and the tartan skirt is a beauty.
Bloody new shop. I bet you're itching to get in and sort it out. In the meantime don't kill yourself with all those long hours, Blogland needs you.
Love you! xxxx
A tenner for a Jaeger coat, ay caramba. It looks in such good condition now; the quality really shows.
This coat is divine Curtise, the find of the year methinks? After all, Jaeger for a tenner?...the quality is evident even from a photo, perfect to wear to all those xmas do's.
Hope you take pots of dough at the weekend. xxx
Your red Jaeger coat is a knock-out and I adore the green and blue ensemble that also fits your perfectly. I have a few Jaeger pieces that were discovered at estate sales, and am impressed with their quality.
Thank you so much for sharing your sequin beret with Hat Attack. You are one of the reasons that this link-up continues. I always love to see the headwear that you're wearing at the first of every month.
Hmmmm, I'm noticing that you are wearing the occasional leg-flashing skirt (or shorts) more these days - Excellent!! That is a beautiful coat, and such lovely buttons! I've come across a few things by that label in thrift stores over here, and they have always looked like they were good quality.
I absolutely love that vintage coat...and you do look stunning in red. What you wore under the coat is also gorgeous. That pencil skirt is fabulous, I do like its green tartan print...great contrast against that red coat.
Very appropriate that you wore this coat to a Red Riding Hood school performance! It must have been a blast. I just love to see live performances whether it is a play, a dance show, a concert or whatever.
I don't often have working weekend, but when I do, I don't like to complain either, especially as I enjoy what I do (translating and editing) and I'm always looking for more work.
Wonderful coat and it looks fab on you - perfect fit. The brooch is so sweet too!Red is such an uplifting colour especially when the weather is so damp and gloomy and cold. Have a great weekend!

Yes to red, I love it, and it's my husband's favourite colour so if he buys me anything to wear (dress/bag/skirt) then it's obviously red. It always surprises me how shy a lot of people are about colour, not even daring to wear coloured tights instead of black. Now, I love all-black too (I went through a goth phase years ago...) but in the winter months I certainly appreciate a bit of colour.
A tenner? A steal!
xx
Shouting, "He's behind you" at a children's play is great fun, but I've heard of people doing it at a performance of Macbeth! Can you imagine? Anyway, yes perfect coat for the event, and any time you wear it. I own a single piece of Jaeger (a scarf) which I love. Your coat is an incredible find-isn't it mind blowing the things people with money will get rid of?
Your skirt is beautiful-the colour, the fit-all envy worthy. You know I love a good tartan, and that one's a treasure.
Blazing red coat. Dreamy. Perfect fit, outstanding quality. This is what thrifting is about - keeping this stuff alive in continuing high style. And your smart tartan in green with the little sweater is gorgeous. I used to have a sequin beret and when I see yours I sigh. I wore my beret for HA too. It felt so good.
Ah, the sequin beret has appeared and I am reminded how much I really need a sequin beret! While I'm confessing to beret envy, I'll also admit to wishing I could find a floor-length Jaeger dressing gown with frog fastenings. Your beautiful coat would do well to have six outings a season in my current life circumstances, but a really nice dressing gown...that would be worn nightly for months!
That coat fits you like a glove ! Stunning.
i love that song!!!!
and red! and you in that gorgeous coat!!! oh - and that skirt/cardi combo is just fab!!!
would like to work for jaeger - it would be a great pleasure to design such elegant wool garments....
have a fine sunday at work! xxxxxx
Beautiful coat and the skirt underneath is amazing too! For about a year all I wore colourwise was black and red, which was really my first step into wearing colour because before that I only wore black (hard to believe!) so red will always be one of my favourites.
That's the perfect Little Red Riding Hood coat ... and it looks fantastic on you.
xx
Can't believe you've managed to get two Jaeger coats for a tenner each! Have you been learning some Vix voodoo?! This one is such a beauty, I just love it. Red is a magic colour, it just injects life and I have to say I don't think you could top the way you've styled it, with that lovely green tweed skirt and a black top. It's perfect and you look amazing in it. Urgh, work work work. I haven't stopped this week, so today didn't drag myself out of bed until after 12. Just been laid out like a pancake or something else of your choosing which looks anaemic and lacks life. Thanks for the shop update. I like to know!! Xxxx
Don't you love a brilliant red coat, and for $15, hello?? You look wonderful wearing it. Good luck at the market today - stay warm and keep an eye for vintage treasures. xox

Hello gorgeous!
I adore wearing red too! It makes me feel so zingy!
That coat is magnificent! A most excellent score!
Love! XXXXXXXX
Love your red wool coat! I've wanted a hooded red wool coat since I was a teen, but have never been able to justify the expense of a new one. Imagine my delight when I found one two days ago in a local thrift shop! With a price tag of $4!!! Oh my stars and garters!!! Alas, upon trying it on, it made me look as if I were playing dress-up in my grandma's closet. My 5'2" frame simply can't carry off the look. Do you suppose there is a red wool coat out there that would suit my stumpy self?
Love your coat! I remember in the 90s I owned a bright red coat too, really loved it. Too warm in Nepal for coats but I do have a red jacket instead. This colour really brightens up grey winter days
I will immediately look for my my sequin hat
What a wonderful red find, just my style. I like your skirt too.
I bagged a bit of red myself at the weekend and have just blogged about it.
Im going to keep my open for a red coat like yours now that I successfully picked up the longed for grey faux coat.
Have a good week Curtise
Lynn xx
£10 for your coat, what a find that was. Love the tartan skirt and cardi combo.
Hope the weekend went well and was full of happy festive shoppers.

I'm with you on the red coat thing. I've always got a red coat (or three) in my closet. So cheery on a dismal day. I've been catching up on your blog and am very excited for you and the new vintage store gig. Every time I go to a UK charity shop and don't see any vintage I try not to think of what went into the rag bag (and I have asked to see the rag bag once or twice).
Fab Jaeger coat - red is such a great colour. You can't fail to be happy when wearing it - or stop traffic, but that's good especially if you're crossing a busy road!
Ooh, January opening date for the shop! Can't wait to read your first post about it and see what's on the rails.

Wow! Looking fab in red chuck!
Can't wait to hear about your new shop! X
How beautiful you look in this red coat, Curtise! Lovely plaid skirt too, and the combination with the diamond patterned tights is fab! I guess it's a red coat time - I too have a few pics of my red coats in store. :)
Wow, that is an amazing find. Jaguar stuff is such good quality and a complete bargain. It is such a bright and cheerful colour and you look festively fabulous in it! Pants sounds like a lot of fun. Love the little brooch. Xx
You're looking perfectly Christmassy in your red and green! What a bargainous beautiful coat! xxxx
I also adore red AND Jaeger! This is a gorgeous, Christmas feeling outfit! Happy to have stumbled across your blog!
