One post, three decades

Dresses might be my True Loves when it comes to clothes, but I do like to ring the changes now and again.

And I can't be tied down to one era's style either - look at me, all over the place from the 1960s to the 80s.
I'm just a decade whore.

1960s C&A jacket, wide-legged trousers and 1960-70s crochet bag - charity shopped
Sandals - retail (sale)
Bangle - gift from Fiona
Necklace - gift from Vix

I didn't know what to wear with this mad 1960s striped jacket until I spotted these pink flares in a charity shop.

I'm channeling Brian Jones.

Groovy.

1970s-style jumpsuit, fringed floral jacket, 1960s Prova leather bag, 1960-70s steel pendant, sandals, bangle and belt -
all charity shopped

I'm slightly embarrassed to admit I had all but forgotten this jumpsuit. The fringed jacket is a new acquisition, and the two seemed destined to be together, in a Stevie Nicks goes to Studio 54 sort of way.

A little bit Halston...

and a little bit hippy.

 1980s C&A silk culotte dress - Ebay
Bangles - charity shopped
Sandals - retail (sale)
Jess - on the prowl in the sunshine

I placed a Ebay bid for this 1980s silk culotte dress on a total whim, and when I won the auction (for a mere 99p), I wasn't really expecting much.

Imagine my surprise - I really like it, and it's been perfect for some rather warm working days of carrying and sorting bags of donations and using the steamer.

It's very nearly the end of term, and also the end of Owen's time at primary school. He assures me he isn't going to cry on Friday, and I can't think that I will either (unlike many parents).

It's time for him to move on, and he's more than ready.

Here he is, complete with genuine 1940s gas mask box, playing an evacuee in the Y6 performance of Archibald's War. He may look miserable, but that's because he's acting, dahling.

Don't let the gorgeous blooms fool you - the garden is in dire need of watering, but I'm knackered and off to bed.

Night night!

Isn't it marvelous when you're happily surprised by an eBay purchase? It's happened to me too. Love these looks, and the groovy inspirations. xox

I think I own that Brian Jones suit in green and white-eeek!

You look great in trousers and culottes, you have height working for you. Aren't jumpsuits the best? Well, they are once YOU'RE in them.

I read an account of an evacuee where she was practically giddy with joy to be getting away from home and her horrible parents, but I imagine that wasn't the impression the play's director was going for. No more primary school, eh? Well they DO grow up quickly which is amazing as we don't seem to age a bit. Curious how that happens...

I'm a decade whore too (love that term)! My husband has a purple, black and white striped jacket from a shop in Carnaby Street - it's so fabulous. You look amazing in it, and LOVE the flares!

Like Sheila I love "decade whore"!
I don't know enough to know what decades I wear. It all mushs together.
Lovely little silk culotte outfit! And the black jumpsuit is sooo glam.
All the best for Owen's graduation :-) xo Jazzy Jack

You know what annoys me? People who have to dress "true to the decade" and refuse to mix things up - that's why I think you are so wonderful lady! I also have a striped blazer (maybe 60's?) in my wardrobe than its a wardrobe orphan :(

mother nature does the watering for me this week :-)
for the decades i would say 30´s (jumpsuit), 40´s (coulotte dress) and yes - totally sixties for the stripe-y jacket!! the jumpsuit look is so very elegant and 30´s hollywood on you - fab!! and i wonder were are this designs like the 80´s dress which are so comfy and practical yet elegant are today? if you want be elegant with "new" clothes then it´s impossible to do real work, for comfy&practical there seem to be only sweatpants or jeans.

and yes - owen is a big boy - almost a young man. new school will be gorgeous!

A romp through the decades in an assortment of wonderfully stylish looks.
Love the culotte dress.
Hope all is well with the shop and that your son enjoys his last day,

Hooray for decade whores!
Like Trees I can't bear seeing people dressing true to a decade and looking like they're off to a fancy dress party.
Those in the know wear vintage to be different not to recreate the past.
Love the Brian Jones blazer, the fringing & jumpsuit and the culottes. they're all fab and despite being completely different are all totally you.
Hope Owen's last day is fun. He's a handsome young man, isn't he? I keep seeing mawkishly sentimental Facebook posts and feel like vomiting.
Love you! xxxx

Gawd, I lurve the stripy blazer and wide leg pants...they were made for each other and the bargain 99p silk culotte dress looks both stylish and comfy. Crying when your child leaves primary school....???
I've heard it all now, get a life people! I hope Owen is looking forward to senior school or whatever they call it nowadays. The blooms are bountiful but yes, it's dry everywhere...my lawn is brown.

Temps are hitting the 90s here in the Midwest -- perfect weather for an elegant silk culotte dress! The length suits your legs, Curtise, and the blue sandals make a neat finishing touch!

Owen most definitely will not cry on his last day of primary school. His is the mein of a Middle-Schooler who's thinking "I'm outa here!"

Olga Rani said...

Hehehe, I like this "decade whore" phrase :) Anyway, you manage to mix all the things in such a manner that all together they look just great. The stripy jacket is super and I simply love the culotte dress.

I love the fringed jacket very, very much.

See this is another one of your looks where I think Oooh I like that and then have to remind myself I can't do jumpsuits, mostly I hasten to add because they are rarely long enough in the body for me. I had a magnificent denim flared one once but the pain when I tried it on well I'll leave that to your imagination!

Lynn Holland said...

Ooh your stripe jacket and pants are like a mirror image of my suit, I'll send you a picture.
I'm agree with you about wearing different eras. For me it's more about what suits me and do I feel good in it. So I'm all over the shop as well with style.
Can't wear my jumpsuit just now as it takes to long to get off when I need a wee and with my dicky back this week it's not a good thing. I do fancy the culotte dress thing though so I'm going to keep my eyes peeled for some while I'm incapacitated.
You look super Curtise in all your outfits

As long as you're channeling the style vibe of Brian Jones and nothing else...

All three outfits suit you extremely well, and have a lighthearted sense of fun about them. The silk cullotte dress is perfect for looking polished at the shop but still lets you do your work. I'd like to get my black jumpsuit and one of my Japanese Haori on and go for a cocktail with you in your slinky hippy outfit. The folks at the pub would think that we were rock stars!

Can't believe how grown up Owen is looking in your recent posts. He's definitely more "young man" than boy.

Its great being a decades whore as you can pick out all the fabulous stuff and forget about the rest. I think its like being the clothing version of the sweeties pick n' mix counter: I love maxi dresses but midis turn me right off, whilst pink shrimps rule but strawberry laces make me gag!

when I see people head to toe in a style for clothes I think: Nice costume. I like to see people mixing it up. And you keep channeling Brian Jones, he dressed the best and had the coolest hair

What a handsome boy Owen is. He is your double too. I am sure that he will be delighted to be moving up to he next school. Sprogzilla was the same, she got a bit antsy towards the end but was sad not to be going to the same school as some of her friends. Thanks for the pics of Brian Jones, what a dresser (and a fabulous guitarist). The Stones were never the same without him. I love all your outfits. What a scoop getting trousers to match your stripy jacket. Love the jumpsuits/culottes. I bought a 70's sewing pattern that is very Halston as I love that look. You look really fabulous in all the decades.Xx

Gorgeous in every ensemble, Curtise! The lilac one is really striking, love it! Silk culotte dress sounds rather yummy, and jumpsuits are my love, especially with fringes and floral design over it. Congratulations to Owen, and happy new beginning!! Much love to you xxxx

Looking gorgeous, Curtise! I especially love the second outfit.

I can remember us parents being more emotional than the children, when it came time to move on to Comprehensive.

Have a perfect week xx

I thought that striped jacket and trousers were a suit, they go so well together.

I admire the willpower people must have to stick to one look and one decade, but I could never do it myself. No one era had the monopoly on great styles. It's better to tart around the decades.

You look gorgeous in your all decades I think its great to wear just what you like and feel comfortable in no matter what decade it is from if you have a passion for it wear it :-) Hope your sons last day went well for him. Your flowers all look gorgeous. dee xx

I knew you'd come up trumps with that stripy jacket. That is the perfect ensemble now, so stylish and cool. All these stripes are looking very neat. I vote we all go as the groovy ladies to the next bloggy get together! They look so fab. I also love your Stevie Nicks jumpsuit and kimono style jacket outfit, really suits you. Big changes for Owen in September, bet he'll love it. Xxxxx
