Three have fun in Nottingham

Birthdays.

They come, they go, and we're another year older, but we don't really feel any different afterwards, do we?

I want to say a massive thank you to everyone for all the birthday wishes, Facebook messages, texts, cards and gifts. I have been thoroughly spoiled, feel a bit overwhelmed, but very, very grateful and appreciative. You are a lovely lot!

On Wednesday, I headed off to Nottingham for the day with my two best buddies, Joanne and Sue.

We had no particular plans, we just wanted a relaxed and meandering sort of day, and that's exactly what we had.

Robin Hood and timber-framed buildings...

bronze statues...

Nottingham Castle...

and a fabulous view over the city.

The sun shone for our picnic...

and we had homemade rock buns, complete with birthday candle and of course, a rousing chorus of Happy Birthday to you/me!

There may have been G&Ts involved as well.

Lovely.

Then some art...

some vintage browsing...

a coffee stop...

and of course, a selfie in the mirror in the toilets. You're welcome.

1970s Hong Kong-made maxi dress - flea market
Bangles - charity shopped
Sandals - retail
Miracle pendant - car boot
Friends - made them myself

Obligatory dodgy selfies in the pub; I do love my girls!

I'm out at a joint 40th/50th party tonight (fancy dress - you'll have to wait and see!) and my mum and sister are visiting on Sunday. So I've managed to extend my birthday treats over a week, and have had the loveliest of times.

I'm rather behind with your blogs having been unplugged for a while, but I'll be catching up as soon as I can.

Have a great weekend!

The party for tonight sounds fantastic. I wish you also happy birthday. To me birthdays are for celebrating how much we have accomplished and not about getting one year older. So, I have the birthdays thing sorted. You all look so beautiful and happy together.

I've only ever been to Nottingham once, I think we spent the entire weekend drinking, right from the moment I got off the train. But my friend took me to all the really historical pubs, so that's ok, isn't it? (the one in the caves was quite cool) Now I want to go back and at least see the art gallery....

Hope you're having a glorious birthday week!

That looks like loads of fun and what three gorgeous ladies! Your dress is a stunner! I haven't had rock buns in ages. My grandma always made them, though she called them rock cakes. I used to make them too using her recipe but haven't done so in decades and now I'd need to make the gluten free. Is there any point? LOL

I've been struggling to keep up with my blog reading and have not been having nearly as much fun as you have! Whine whine moan.

Keep on with the birthday fun! make it last as long as you can!

Hello Curtise,

What gun you girls all look to have had in Nottingham. A bit of everything and surely something for everyone. A perfect day out, no doubt.

And, many, many happy returns of the day! How clever of you to have stretched the celebrations into a week rather than a day......next year perhaps you can aim for aBirthday Fortnight.

Still, there can be nothing more enjoyable than simple pleasures in the happy company of friends. Wonderful!

Glad you had such a great birthday! Hope you have many more! :)xoxoxo

What a gorgeous day out! I had not idea Nottingham was so interesting. And you are very visible and gorgeous in that fabulous dress. I bet you almost made those bronze statues melt!

So happy you had so much fun! I love birthday celebrations, especially with your besties. You richly deserve all the celebration, and that is absolutely my favorite of your dresses that I've seen so far. What a print ... just wonderful. It will remain my favorite until something else wonderful that you show us comes along.
Nottingham is nearly as interesting as your birthday party. Thank you yet again for the excellent photos.

Happy Birthday girl - we'were thinking about Barcelona for mine, but now... Hmmm, maybe Nottingham! Looks like you had a fabulous day - can't put a price on that support network. As Armistead Maupin would say 'your logical family rather than your biological family' xxx

You and the girls are looking head-turningly gorgeous. You were probably laughing everywhere you went and were the envy of all those who saw you. What a fantastic way to celebrate the start of a new year. Fancy dress? Show us, show us what you wore. And another visit on Sunday. Lovely.

I don't know what's going on over there but you are looking particularly glowy in your photos lately. Maybe it's just the effect of summer and good times.

I missed your birthday!! Well, Happy Belated Curtise. Looks like you have some nice friends to share it with and also enjoy some of the same things you do. The dress you chose to celebrate in is fantastic on you. The colors are so vibrant and really compliment you.
Hope your whole year is the best yet!

In the words of Stevie Wonder, Happy Birthday to you! Happy Birthday! So glad you had a wonderful time in Nottingham. It's lovely to see it through someone else's eyes. I only regret I wasn't able to join you in all the fun. You look radiant and I don't blame you at all for drawing out the fun. My 40th took at least a month, so you are well entitled. Love your friend's cross-eyed look for the camera, classic!! Xxxxx

Mrs Bertimus said...

Looks like you had a blast!
Cannot WAIT to see your costume! X

Forest City Fashionista said...

I have to admit that I didn't know exactly what day your birthday was, so all I know is that it was sometime this week. When it's a milestone birthday like your 50th, you have permission to celebrate it for as long, or as short as you like. I celebrated mine for at least a month.

A day out with friends with food (what are rockbuns?), drinks, a bit of thrift shopping, looking at art - sounds like the perfect day to me. The dress you're wearing is gorgeous; I love blue and orange together.

Wishing you the happiest of belated birthdays! What a perfect way to celebrate, it could have been my birthday that is just how I would spend it. You are wearing my dress :) and looking BEAUTIFUL as are Joanne and Sue. Nottingham, as all your cities look storybook to me, why I would be oohing and ahh-ing everywhere. Your rock bun birthday cake is ace!
Can't wait to see you being all fancy and shit.
I LOVE YOU CURTISE!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CURTISE!!!

Wow 50, wouldn't have believe it unless you told me...thought you were 29.;) I have to say that since that's what my mother used to say, 29 and holding...now it's funny to me since I'm long past that.
But, numbers are just numbers, it's how you feel and by all your pics you seem to be as frisky as a filly, so YAY for that! Love seeing you have so much fun with your GFs. What a wonderful way to spend your special day. And, Nottingham-thought that was only a made up name...hope you met some hot boys in tights.;)
Love your pretty B-day dress the colors are great and you look so lovely bathed in perfect light in that seated pic.
Wishing you the BEST on your Birthday and ALWAYS!!:)

What a lovely birthday day out! Those rock buns look like rock cakes that my mum used to make when we were younger :) Also that maxi is AMAZING! I'm slowly catching up with all my blog reading, so you will get some comments on your older posts. Also if I didn't say so before, I hope you had a truly wonderful birthday.
