We're looking at the Big Sky

So the school holidays are underway, and we have had a few lovely lazy days.

Life is so much easier when I don't have to nag the kids about homework...

There's been plenty of this.

That cloud, that cloud - looks like Ireland!
C'mon and blow it a kiss now.
But quick, cos it's changing in the Big Sky.

There's been some wandering around our local area.

The kids love this.

Eldest was "being serious".

Who knows why?

Our local swimming pool, opened in July 1909.

The Edwardian signage was rather more elegant than the modern version.

This glorious Art Deco building houses a wholesale carpet business.

Surely it was built for something more impressive?

We called in for a browse at one of our nearby antiques and collectables centres, and to have a drink and a slice of cake on the roof terrace.

Eldest posed in big hats, and we stumbled across a pair of Converse for Littlest for a fiver - result!

(No, I don't know what they were doing in an Antiques centre either.)

1960s shift dress - vintage fair
Cardigan, canvas shoes, sunglasses and bangles - charity shopped
Leggings - jumble sale

Suitably sunny, summery colours.

 Or maybe not.

It's a ghost dress!

See what I mean about problems with lighting at the moment?

Tomorrow, the kids and I are off to enjoy the famously big skies of North Yorkshire, we're visiting my friend Patsy and her family.

Can't wait!

xxxx

I am rather in love with your frock/ghost dress! I have to admit, I adore that street art its amazing and the art deco building is just lovely. I always do feel a little sad when fabulous old buildings have less than fabulous lives - we have a beautiful old Bank of New Zealand building that is now used as a burger king - gross! Jealous of all those blue skies. Have a lovely trip :)

Have an amazing time! Such beautiful skies, I love English clouds, Constable painted them the best. Urgh, looking at the contract between the old and new signage, I wonder at our lack of civic pride and aesthetic taste too! You look gorgeous in that dress, such pretty colours and very sweet delicate leggings too. Do you normally do sweet and delicate?!
I LOVE that graffiti!! xxxxx

Oh, I love that frock both the earthly and spooky variation!
The carpet shop is gorgeous, the graffiti is incredible and I shudder at that hideous travesty of sign writing on those glorious baths!
That's the most serious I've seen the kids standing nicely in a row like that, bet they won't be quite as orderly in another month!
Yay to Converse for £5.
Have a wonderful time with Patsy and the family!
Love you! xxxxxxxxxx

Oh oh I do love when you give us all a wee holiday to, looking round a wonderful English town....just spiffing.
I must agree that pool sign is so wrong..........modern yucky ness.

I love the holidays too Curtise, it's so relaxing just to let everything go isn't it. The holidays haven't got that long left up here and I just can't get into the thought of normal life starting again, wish we were able to just take off and drop out! That's what I feel like these days. Love the pics of the kids, you even managed to get a few of the seldom seen kid as well. The girls look so pretty in the big hats and lucky you finding Converse for a fiver. I'm intrigued by the sign next to the river, or is it some really famous quote and I'm showing my ignorance here. Beautiful pictures of the sky too, and of Curtise! Have a great time in north Yorkshire, I think that's where we were, Scarborough? and it was fantastic, we met a woman who feeds a local seagull from a bowl on her doorstep every day and it was as placid as anything. Ooh, great Kate Bush song too! xx

Watching clouds, wandering around and eating cake on a roof terrace. Sounds like the perfect start to your summer holidays.

Have you taken Eldest on the payroll as your apprentice? I'm sure I have seen photos of you posing with big hats. She's got it down to a tee.

Love the 60s shift dress, both versions, it is cute and fun and your bob is g-rrrrreat! Swimming pool signage. Progress? Alas! Enjoy N Yorkshire! xxxxxx

Big sky was the first Kate Bush song I ever heard, I was in college and I thought she had a great voice and even better big hair:). Did you know that growing up in Ca I rarely saw cloudy skies, here in portland they are common and I will never tire of trying to find faces in them, never!

You and the kids all have a summer glow about you. I too love the Skelton graffiti we have great taste. Have a blast with family at your friends, hold onto summer it's slipping fast.

Such a cute dress with wonderful colours and so cool with the leggings and the cardigan. OMG I wish the graffiti was here so I could take photos of it, it is so cool. I like Art Deco too, its nice to see the big curved window and the portholes. My 11yo is jealous about the pair of converse. She wants a pair. Hope you are really enjoying all the lovely weather. xx

So happy to see you and your children enjoying the beautiful weather and sights around town. And yes, the modern signage is depressing. They could have done so much better. Love your shorter dress and leggings. You have lovely legs! :-)

Totally nuts about your 60's shift. You look like a groovy mom. Love the skeleton within a skeleton. So cute the way Eldest is still a kid but starting to get that way too cool grown up look. I remember it well. Love your kids. Love you. Love the Big Sky. I actually grew up In a part of the US known as "Big Sky Country" how about that!

Dresses and short leggings are my daily go-to while we are having the lovely weather. Very much like the sunny colours of your outfit.

I think your eldest will rock hats beautifully when she is older (showing great promise as yet). Ah, their holiday feeling must be lovely...

Have fun on your trip! Xxx
