You may not be an old-fashioned girl, but you're gonna get dated

After all the excitement and treats of last week, things are a little quieter around here.

Which is OK. I need to get my breath back.

Of course, there is the new edition of Vogoff to enjoy.

So many wonderful contributions.

Melanie, hard working assistant to the tyrannical Editor-in-Chief Miz Bagg, has done an amazing job; check out the awesomeness, marvel at the beauty, style and great foolishness!

I did enjoy doing my photo shoot as Clementine, I laughed so much that half the photos were unusable.

I might even show you some of the outtakes, wouldn't that be a treat?

1950s Hawaiian dress - flea market
Sequin top - jumble sale
(Total cost of these 2 items - under £2!)
Pendant and bangles - charity shopped
Sandals - retail

There's my garden goddess statue. My blogger pal Secret Squirrel asked me if she has a name, but she doesn't.

I googled goddess of the garden and came across a Roman goddess called Horta; I could go with that, but it sounds redolent of other, less horticultural connotations...

I went to nine charity shops this morning with my mate Jo - count them, NINE - and only found one little thing, which is intended as a gift for someone.

How did that happen?

Yesterday was slightly better.

I found a third 1960s vanity case - in the same charity shop as the other two - so now I have a red, white and blue set. They were all different prices, which made me laugh (£3, £3.50 and £4, if you're interested).

The pressed glass jar with a silver plate lid (1930-40s, maybe?) just appealed and has a little collection of hat pins in it. (£2.)

The patchwork print fabric is a 1970s homemade dress which has lost its elastic and looks rather odd, but I have hopes of being able to fashion something out of it. Don't know what yet, but the fabric was too good to leave behind. (£3.)

Our lawn is scattered with dandelions and daisies, I like them.

And that's all I've got.

See, told you I was feeling quiet this week.

Linking up with Max's Op-shop Show-off.

Oh Elvis. Did he sing this song? How wonderful. Can I mention how fabulous you are in the most recent VOGOFF? I love your garden goddess. Horta is a lovely name. It has a nice slutty ring to it. You do look quite wonderful in green. Very gardeny. Very Horta-y.

I like the tiki vibe of that dress :) Your Vogoff spread was amazing!!! Congrats!!!!!

I love your Hawaiian dress and I would never have thought of putting sequins with it but that's brilliant.
I don't know, Oh, Divine Goddess Horta, hm. There's Demeter, but she's more a goddess of granola.
I would love to see your outtakes! Laughing between the straight faces, that's the whole point.
Anyway, you look wonderful. Clearly there's nothing like a week of fun with friends to shake it all out.

You are stupendous in VOGOFF!!! I so admire your composure - bring on the cracking-up outtakes for sure! I'm also envious of your contemplative breather just now - sounds divine, oh Clementine! Fantastic frock, too. xoxo

I feel like launching into song after checking out your spread in Vogoff Ms C. It goes a little something like this: "Oh my darlin, oh my darlin, oh my darlin Clementine..."

love your photos in Vogoff.

9 shops? I spent a whole morning yard saling with a friend once and found nothing! At least you found something

O, how jolly splendid to have a chance to catch ones breath, especially after all the hilarity of your divoon Vogoff spread!!!
It's pretty normal these days to go to 5 or so oppys here and find nothing. When I do find something, it is indeed a GRAND DAY! I love that jar, and how awesome to get the bonus of some hat pins!! You know vanity cases make me SQUEE, and this one is no different! And I yearn to see what you will do with the patchwork frock.........
Love this tropical inspired maxi...we've got some sun today, so I'll close my eyes and make believe I am swanning about having tropical cocktails with you!
Love you!XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

PLEASE, when you decide you're tired of that dress, send it to me. I have several Hawaiian print dresses that I wear every summer and I lovelovelove them!! Yours is particularly gorgeous in green. If you could send that pretty shrug as well, I'd be fine with that. I'm serious about the dress. No, really. But as good as you look, I wouldn't blame you if you kept it. XXOO

Don't come any closer, don't come any nearer, I'm going to have that song playing in my head all day now Curtise, love it, reminds me of middle school and sitting in the hairdressers waiting for my mum. And I love that Hawaiian dress too, I remember you showing it to us when you got it and I thought it was gorgeous then. Lets hope you get lots of opportunities to wear it this summer, and your Vogoff shoot was fantastic, it's nice that you still talk to us lot after hobnobbing with the Queen and all, yes please show us the outtakes! xx

Nice dress, is it for sale?
I've been sitting here thinking about how I wish it was this time last week. What a day! Can't wait for the next one!
I adore that Hawaiian maxi and the patchwork print knackered dress definitely looked far too good to leave behind.
I wish I could have some of your dandelions, Jacob's munched his way through the lot and they're his favourite.
Clementine was a triumph, by far my favourite article in the latest VOGOFF.

oops, was so stunned with the dress and Dave Edmunds I forgot to mention your luverly shoooos! xx

This VOGOFF is totally bloody brilliant. I laughed my arse off.
Would Clementine like a guest room at Lady Emma's House of Correction? I'm always on the lookout for the very best? You may bring your own maid or borrow mine, Nancy. He's a bit dim, but he polishes boots nicely.
Gorgeous dress.
Daisies are our silver, buttercups our gold.

cool shoes you have on there Curtise! that mag is hilarious, i love the furniture store anti-ad, and you mistress of chatsworth(?) are all (upper) class! xxx

Yes, more Clementine please!!I want to see ALL the outtakes, that was one of my favourite editorials, in my top three for sure (probabily the number one..but I don't want to offend all the other ladies that did such an amazing work full of beauty and irony). After seeing all those stunning vanity cases on various blogs (Helga is the vanity case queen) I'd really love to find one, but probabily here they weren't so popular!I really love the dress you are wearing, it really makes me hope that summer is coming!
Love xxxxxxxx

Wonderful score with your third vanity case - and you are looking awesome in your Hawaiian dress, perfect for the garden. Two goddesses there now! xoxoxo

I love the colours of that frock on you. Your hair looks so lovely against it. I salivated a bit at the sight of that patchwork print fabric....gloriarse! And squee to yet another vanity case. You my dear are on a roll!
I found another maxidress today which reminded me of you...again. You're such an inspiration! Xx

So I am dying to know how does the garden always seem to coordinate with your outfits?!?! You look extra fresh in these photos, your hair a bit more shiny, you just have an ease about ya. I loved your photo spread in Melanie's mag, it looked like you had a blast and that's most important. Your red white and blue cases will take you far and I'm sure you will have no trouble filling them
Lotsoflove

Great colours of that Hawaiian dress. You were lucky to find that. My favourite colours!!!

citizen rosebud said...

You've got quite a lot! Gorgeous in your Muu-Muu and I loved seeing you get your style on in Vog-Off! What a great issue. As for your garden goddess may I suggest a name: Helphanor, goddess of slug bait.

You could name her Hortense--that's such a nice prim and proper name!

LOVE the dress--the print is freakin' fabulous!!

I hate when i come up with NOTHING after visiting multiple charity shops!!

Love the print--could you show us the whole dress so maybe we could give you some ideas??

I love Hawaiian prints, and that dress is a beaut. And how fabulous are those shoes!

Sometimes it's that way with charity shops, but there's no point buying something that doesn't really appeal, just for the sake of it, and then having to re-donate it (I know whereof I speak!)

I love that you've left the dandelions and daisies in your lawn. I do that too. They look so pretty, and dandelions have loads of uses too. One of my friends is currently brewing up some dandelion champagne. I shall let you know how the taste test goes!

Off to check out Vogoff

I agree with Tamera - Hortense is a great name. I love that dress, the colours really suit floating around in the garden and floating down the shops to pick up a few bits. I love the white vanity case - but stop finding them, you're making me jealous. I hate it when a trip round the chazzas feels like a drag when you can't find anything. That dress looks like it's got great potential - can you replace the elastic? xxx

ps: loved you in VogOff? did I already say this? Let's see some outtakes

Dont' talk to me about charity shopping and not buying a sausage. I'm the queen of that *stamps feet and sulks*. I love the frock - one of my favourites. And another vanity case? Jealous. xx

Wow I adore hat pins, so what a find, they are like gold dust around these parts. And that fabric was absolutely too good to miss.

I have to confess that I always need a dictionary when I read your posts as there is always a word or two that I'm not sure of xx

Rachel said...

Floral with the sequins is LOVELY. I shoud try that.

So maybe you could name the stone lady Hortense? Or perhaps Melanie, in honour of Vogoff?? xxx

First of all, I have to say Clementine Le Derriere was magnificent this month. What a role model for us all! Bet Chatsworth hasn't seen anything like that in a while! Do show us the outtakes!

Yes, that happens with the charity shops. It can be feast or famine. This time is was obviously quality rather than quantity. Can't believe you had red, white and blue matching vanity cases. Result, patriotic style!

I love you in that dress and I love daisies in the lawn! xxxx

Unknown said...

Ooh you are so beautiful in that gorgeous maxi... the colours are amazing and I ADORE the print. I like the daisies and dandelions too.

Can't wait to see what you do with that fab patchwork fabric - I never used to like the patchwork prints but I adore them now... funny how our tastes change.

And a red, white and blue vanity trio is so amazing - what I wouldn't give for that fabularse trifecta!

LOVE! Sarah xxx

That dress looks fabulous on you. Ha, I love that all the vanity cases were different prices from the same shop. I have noticed that charity/op shops aren't exactly consistent with pricing.

I was thinking of posting a couple of outtakes from my Vogoff shoot too, but I think I deleted all the really embarrassing ones ;) I'm a bit photo-exhausted between the Vogoff shoot and the Yellow Skirt one!

I do love that dress - great fit and such a cool pattern.

You look like Summer herself in this great, great dress. GREAT dress ... tiki mugs, pikake blossoms, Tahitian paradise ... the six-pack wearing male candy cast of the new Hawaii 5-0 (...gotta stop now.)
And the flirty little bit of black chiffon Bollywood. Doesn't get much better.
Lovely you. Great hair. Did you get highlights?
Big hugs from the steamy south US,

That dress is perfect for this time of year. I remember vanity cases. I used to lust after one so much when I was a little girl. I eventually got a navy blue one.
